this event totally immobilized the car. Material is dark red - black. 2005 cooper s with automatic trans 77000 miles. Anyone have this happen to them? Car is dead in the water.

Sounds like transmission fluid. I'd guess your CVT transmission is dead. Not a cheap fix. Sorry this has happened to you.

Car has 6 spd automatic. My buddy has it at his garage and says he put some atf in the trans and it pumps it out faster than he can put it in. probably junk!

If your buddy has it in his garage..where is it leaking at? Where is the location of the leak on the transmission?

Sounds like you might need a new tranny....
But first make sure that the transmission oil cooler lines are intact (pretty sure the MINI has them)....

Sounds like a hole - either in the pan or a hole due to a mechanical failure. This is the 6 speed, not cvt.

vehicle leaks between the transmission and engine block. we're thinking it's possibly the trans seal. or something gave way entirely. the next question would be why but in reading some previous posts the trans has more in common with a grenade

Adainc: In reviewing posts and threads on transmission failure be sure you are reading only those that are relevant to your situation; you have an Aisin automatic, not a CVT. And not a Midlands 5-speed either.

If its leaking between the bell housing and engine block where the transmission mates to the engine like you said then its likely your main seal that the torque converter slides into in the transmission. Your torque converter is your pump. If the seal is bad there then your ATF will almost come out as fast as one could pour it in. You will of course have to pull the transmission to check it.. If that is too much for you to handle then I would find a good mechanic you trust for the job..and one that has worked on MINIs and transmissions. I have never seen this type of transmission to blow a hole anywhere.. But one just never knows with MINI anything is possible! good luck!

jury is in and the problem is a blown front seal. will be looking to get some ideas on how to approach the repair. Guess the first thing to do is get the transmission out of the car and see what i have. Will update. Does anyone know of rebuild parts or where one can obtain them. See the yards want 3 grand or more for trannies with more than 80K on them. Thanks for all your input!
