Hey guys, just got my CVT BRG Cooper and I wanted to get an alarm. Any suggestions on what seems to be the most reliable alarm out right now? Nothing too fancy schmanzy because I'm broke. Just something that will prevent my car from being broken into...
Suggestions anyone???

The MINI alarm works and on 04s is incredibly easy to install yourself.

Where can I buy one and what is the price? If it is through the dealer, is there a place that sells them cheaper? Also, is it even easy for a mechanically challenged person like me?

Try classic mini. They sell the alarm at $236 plus shipping. Or at least they did.

To put in the alarm on an 04 you:

1. Snap in a module under the plastic cover on the headliner (5 minutes)
2. Plug the siren into the wiring harness under the hood, and bolt it down with 2 nuts (5 minutes)
3. Replace the wiper stalk by undoing about 4 screws near the steering column, and sliding the stalk out of it's resting place (20 minutes)
4. Have the alarm activated by the dealer.

If you don't have the Euro parcel shelf and want it, get it at the same time since that piece will come out when you are replacing the wiper stalk.

I ended up getting one called the Pursuit, made by Audio Vox. $299 installed. It activates both from the MINI remote and from locking and unlocking w/ the key. Comes w/ a small blinking dash LED, can have horn signal or not as you desire, and for another $100, it has a proximity alarm feature, which I decided against having. I'm very happy w/ it, had it since I got the car in 2/03.

A really large and mean pitbull seems to be the most effective for me.

Which one is the proximty feature? Does yours have an impact sensor so if it's bumped the alarm will sound?

Proximity is motion detection, which is overkill IMO. My alarm gives 4 quick chirps if the car is bumped. The threshold can be set at different degrees of sensitivity, and I've never had mine set off by loud noises, etc. No false alarms to date.

Twice as effective. And they work as a proximity alarm.
