In another thread I read about audio fuel warning being a programmable feature. Did anyone have this option turned on? How does it work (like the below 37 degree warning with one “ding” or does it “ding” a few times)? Any help would be appreciated.

I had Mini of Peadbody turn mine on. It gives one ding when it gets to about 1/8th of a tank. It would be better if it warned me everytime I started the car when I was less than 1/8th, but one ding is better than nothing.

I hate how the light comes on at 1/8th of a tank or so. You can still go a long way on a 1/8th of a tank. When the light comes on it worries me so I keep staring at it while I'm driving and force myself to fill up. It'd be better if it came on once the needle started touching the bottom line.

The audio warning has to be programmed. Wonder how many did?

MINIclo has this feature in her MINI. I found out about it while travelling cross country with her before the Dragon. As soon as the tank is half empty, you won't stop hearing about it from her until you stop to fill up

Her's was probably programmed by God, not the MINI dealer.

Mine gives the single ding. I asked for that to be programmed, after reading about all the programming options here on NAM.

When I hear it, I usually look at the temperature readout on my tach, since I usually think that it's 3 degrees C (the temperature warning ding).

Here in Montana, we're still hitting the occasional freezing temperature, but give it a month, then I'll know for sure that the ding is for fuel.

I tried to have the dealer enable the low fuel dong on my early '03 build. They me me car couldn't be done because of s/w version was incompatible.

They should be able to uprev the software at the dealer and turn it on. There's a ton of stuff you can turn on. The list I found was here from mattcoon. I printed it off, marked it up and took it down my dealer. They said it was the most comprehensive list they'd seen. Took then 15 mins to set up all the programmable stuff.

This is exactly where I found out about the fuel warning. A big thanks to mattcoon for getting together with the dealer to provide us with extensive list of programmable features. On a side note, I hopefully get to pick up my MINI next weekend! Wo-ho!! I it is good to know about all of the features before leaving the dealer for me, because they are over 600mi away. Finding out about a feature that I would like to have would be a long trip just to get turned on.

I think that mine worked once and that's it. I have never heard it again.

You can still go a long way on a 1/8th of a tank.
I don't know of any hard data backing it up, but it was pretty much standard practice on the E46 forums to fill up shortly after dipping below 1/4 tank. In particular, I was warned to never let my M3 get near empty.

Why won't the link in post #11 work? Am I missing something? I am trying to find a comprehensive list of programmable features. There are many threads but when I try the link to the comprehensive lists, I get an expired page warning. Any help?

I had mine turned on at Westchester MINI prior to delivery of my '05. It dings when the fuel warning light comes on... I like it b/c I have the chrono pack and I am not always looking over there to see how muc gas I have left!!
I also had the auto-unlock when the car is turned off enabled, that is a great thing.... car locks at 10 mph then unlocks when I turned it off! All of the cars can have this done from what I gather..

I read that in various forums the same thing about cars with turbos. I can't remember what the reason was though. On that note, I have let the coop go below a quarter and I have heard the audible chime a couple of times.

That's the standard line when the dealer doesn't know how to do something. It's usually very effective because the customer goes away with an explanation and the service guy has one less thing to worry about.

Your best bet is to call MINI USA and hope the person you speak with knows about this particular option (it's always a crap shoot...). They can contact your dealer and talk them through the programming procedure. Or you can try going to another dealer.

A friend of mine had his M3's fuel pump burn up way early in it's life because it was always on E.

I would love to see that list too! I'll check some other sites - but please let me know if you find it.

Wow. I got bored one night and started to look thru some of my old posts, and see that the link above no longer works. Sorry about that try this one. Go down to post # 18. I believe that when Mark migrated NAM to NAM 2.0 some links were broken. (about half of my “Favorites” links no longer work ). Oh well.

I wonder if there has been some changes in the programmable features in the ’05 MINIs.

I have an appointment one week from today. Can anyone help me locate a comprehensive list of the programmable features for a 2003 MCS?

I want to fine tune my MCS but not sure what the options are. When I went to the dealer the 2nd or 3rd time, I took a printout of a list I got from this site. However, there seems to be more options than I originally was aware of.

The dealer, of course, was unaware of some of the features/options they eventually learned how to program from my list.

Any assistance will be appreciated.

I very seldom let the fuel get down low enough to have the light come on.I don't like letting it get that low, would be very bad to run out of gas on the highway in the winter

One ding at about 1/8th of a tank. Just heard it once, because I don't let it go down that low. But I had to check if it worked of course, when the car was new!
