Should you wait for a certain period of time before applying the first coat of wax to a new car? I remember having to wait a few months before waxing the non-enviro freindly auto paints, doeas this still hold true for today's water based auto paints?

Any, info. would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers, Harper.

From what I've read, no waiting! apply wax as soon as you like! Check out threads under Detailing 101 , lots of info there.

This may just be misinformation, but I work at a detailing spot in Nashville. We mainly deal with new, high-end cars. When some cars come in and want us to wax it, we have to make sure that their car has not been painted in the last 5 months. Because if it has, we can't wax it. So, depending on when the side of your driver door says it was manufactured, you may have to wait 4-5 months. Oh, and where I work, we do everything by hand, so I'm not talking about using a buffer or anything. That's just what I've heard, though.

I would agree, look at the manufactor date and wait a minimum of 3 to 5 months to let the paint cure before waxing the first time. It takes several months for your MINI to reach you so wait another 2 or 3 months before waxing is safe. I your MINI has been sitting around waiting for a long time then no problem.

You can still do weekly wash and dry and that is good for the finish.
