YES!

I'm very happy with my rates from GEICO.

Both Geico and Progressive (sorry if you've had a different or better experience) are NOTORIOUS for arbitrarily raising rates. I've personally known a half-dozen people, and heard of dozens more stories from friends of Progressive especially delivering rates that were 2 or 3 times what they were the previous year.

I've never heard of a satisfactory explanation for why they do this. A lot of these folks are living in low-crime, safe areas with perfect records.

I've avoided co's like them for this reason. (I know that this will elicit posts about how great one or the other is, but having to worry about whether you'll have coverage next year isn't worth it for me.)

In short--shop around. Jeff

You may want to look at a year long insurance policy. Many insurance companies look at your willingness to insure for a longer period of time as stability. I have used AAA for about 14 years and have not had my premiums go up unless I bought a new car, in fact I believe they have gone down every year. I am not ragging on Proggessive but their commercials give me the sense that they are more of a high risk insurance company.

Shop around!!

Thanks for the advice, I guess being a loyal customer doesn't count for anything and in fact makes you a target for rate increases. It happened with my previous carrier who I used for 20 years and on a whim asked for a quote from Progressive and was floored when they wrote my coverage for 30% less. Now after 5 years with Progressive and unexplainable rate increases, mainly on the MINI, I guess I will go shopping for lower insurance prices.

I've been pleased with my rates with Progressive to date. I switched from Nationwide after they concluded they had a right to try to rape my wallet after totalling Mr.Motor.

Agreed, seems that it's imperative to switch insurance companies every few years to avoid the typical rate hikes.

I can't wait for my birthday this year (I'll be 25) because I supposed to see a big drop in my monthly premium. I'm with Mercury Casualty (California company). I have a perfect driving record: no speeding tickets, no accidents, no nothing, but I'm still paying $242/month for my insurance policy.
When I bought my "Frackmobile" nobody had any idea on how to rate the vehicle for insurance, but now I'm getting the 'high-performance race' surcharge. Hopefully, after my birthday I'll get a note from my carrier saying, "it's been nice taking money from you for so long, now we're going to take less."

I traded in my '99 Subaru Forester for my '04 Cooper. Amazingly - my rates went down!

Thank you State Farm

I was a loyal Geico customer for 9 years with no claims (other than a windshield repair). When it came time to get coverage on the MINI, I shopped around and Lincoln National quoted me $600 less per year, with higher coverages! I asked Geico if they could match the rate, they said no , so I said, See ya!
