I went to a COSTCO in Fountain Valley a few mornings ago. Anybody that knows Costco knows that their parking lots are not MINI friendly because they rarely collect the shopping carts and tw@ts in SUVs and big cars tend to think that the "extra room" in a MINI's parking spot is for parking stray shopping trollies/carts. Anyway, I parked on the very extreme end of another parking lot of another store that was not yet open for another hour (Petco). The nearest car was about 100 yards away in another lot altogether. When I came back, there was another car parked next to my MINI so close that I had to get in through the passenger side. Keep in mind, we were the ONLY cars in the entire lot and this car had about 100 other spots to park. It was so obvious that I hought I was on Candid Camera or something. I figured that it was probably an employee of Petco so I started banging on the door of the store (not yet open) to give the owner some grief. Lucky for both of us, he didn't open the door. I respect people's property (even if they don't) but I have never been so close to keying a car in my life! I am tempted to go back to costco and buy some cones and crime scene tape so I can block off my MINI's "personal space."

That reminds me of the time we went to Denny's (I know, I was like 19, okay) in my friend's new Jetta VR6. We parked in the farthest row of spots, and sure enough we come outside to find a huge conversion van shoehorned into the next space, 6 inches away.

WTF is wrong with these people?

It never fails.. I always try to park far away from other cars at parking lots.. not only in the MINI but all of my cars.. and sure enough when I come back, more times than not.... someone is parked in the spot right next to me.. Why cant they park where everyone else is parked?

Trust me. In these cases, a western-style belt with metal decorations all around is perfect when you gotta slide against some inconsiderate lout's vehicle who is obviously looking to cause grief.

That's why I double park, at at angle, so no one can pin my driver's side door.

Have you guys ever considered that when you park in the fartherst spot away its obvious that you don't want anyone to park next to you so people might intentionally be parking right next to you just to **** you off? I tend to do the same thing but not to such an extreme, I'll try to park where there aren't that many people but not in the dead last spot so its totally obvious that I'm avoiding other cars.

another strategy is to park next to new BMWs, AUDIs, MB, or Lexus cars. Surround yourself with expensive cars on both sides and usually you will do well.
Then they will be complaining on some luxury car forum about all these upstart MINIs getting too close.

Unfortunately nearly everybody here in OC drives either a large SUV or a "luxury" car. I stay away from them because it is the breeder yuppy types with the carload of snot nosed brats that will ding your car when they are unloading and loading and leave the shopping cart in your parking spot.

Spread the love by leaving a Nice note that says. Please park betterjavascript:%20x(). I have done it before while watching from a far to make sure the person didn't key my car for leaving the note.

But Why, tell me why, does it always have to be freakin' SUV's. The poorly park the largest vehicles. Wouldn't be so bad if someone were poorly parking a Miata for example.

I gave this matter serious thought after this had occurred over and over again to me. At times I have parked so far out in the lot I may as well stayed home and walked. I have concluded these people suffer from the "monkey syndrome". They must stay in packs at all times. Ever notice if you go into a restaraunt where you can seat yourself, and choose the farthest table away from everything to be able to hold a private conversation, and the entire restaurant is empty - where does the next person sit? Of course - right next to your table. They park the same way. Monkey syndrome - that's what it is!

I left a "nice note" on a pickup truck at Home Depot the day after I bought my new Jetta, a few years ago. It just so happens that the person was walking up just as I was putting the note on his windshield. He asked what it was, so I read it to him, "Dear *********, I don't know where you learned to drive but you should also learn to park that piece of *****, you m&th^er F****n Piece of ..."

He didn't take to kindly to my kind words and rammed his shopping cart into my car as a challenge. I accepted by ramming my fist into his face, and we were in junior high all over again. That is until the Tustin Police came out. Lucky for me, the cops were cool and let us go. I ended up with a scratched bumper, he with a (probably) broken nose. This was TOTALLY of of character for me but, I have to admit, it felt good. My spouce was not too happy, though. At least she didn't have to bail me out of jail. I guess the moral is, don't make the note too nasty. If you couldn't read it aloud without enciting violence, then at least be ready for a quick getaway!
