just curious... what are the worst and best mpg that people are getting w/ the coops. i live, work and drive mostly in san francisco. that means beautiful views and city, but mostly start and stop up and down hills in traffic. consequently we're talking about 20/21 mpg. could be worse... could have a different car. i can park now.

With JCW, the car was averaging around 30 MPG. Now with additional mods (CAI/hose, TB, Milltek header/exhaust, and Unichip ECU), fuel efficiency has decreased to 26 MPG.

Hi digi-mike, and Welcome!

there are many many threads on this subject - do a search and I'm sure you'll come up with lots of information!

for the record, I've gotten between 20 (worst) and 32(best, only happened once!). I average around 25 combination driving. It used to be around 22 consistently, then after about 17,000 miles, it started improving. It could be the car being more 'broken in' or it could be that my driving is different. Who knows?

Best calculated mpg in 03 MCS was 38 Hwy cruising at 65 mph.

Worst ever mpg was 7,8 mpg on track day (calculated).

I used to get around 30-32 mpg highway and 22-26 city, but since an unresolved engine resonance and vibration problem I've been down to 18 city and 26 hwy, no more (all calculated).

Just updated my MPG charts today.
My worst calculated value was 19.3 when the car was in a (so-called) audio shop for three weeks with the engine running, trying in vain to eliminate engine whine through the system. My best calculated value was 32.1, during summer driving.

When I average out fill-to-fill variation, I get a higher average best of about 31 in the summer (June through October) and a lower average best of about 25 in the winter (presumably due to short drives with the engine not warming up, heated seats, lights, etc).

digi-mike,

mpg will vary a lot due to personal driving habits.
My worst mpg was driving in heavy rush hour or on the track or autocross. I can still get about 20-22 mpg.
My best was 33 mpg driving a stock MCS mostly highway at 60 mph.
My heavily modded MINI right now gets about 26 to 27 mpg with mixed driving

I record my odometer reading and gallons taken at every fill. Since new (18 months, 12,200 miles) my very best tank was 27.77 mpg (highway, coming back from Phoenix) and my worst was 18.02mpg (daily driving with my 3 mile stop-n-go traffic commute). My overall average is 21.02 mpg, since nearly all my miles have been in traffic with "spirited" launches at traffic lights.

Knowing SF hills that mileage sounds good. In North SD county our MC gets about 18 if we only do the short, stop and go, up and down hill 1-2 mile drives. Best full tank was 37.5 and worst 23.5, average 27+ overall. I thought it was bad until I borrowed my dad's XJ-12, that used exactly twice as much premium.

I have gotta admit... the best mpg since I got my MINI.

37.5 MPG.... I'm loving it. Its been about 7 months. Could it be that the engine is finally breaking in? This is freeway driving of course. I do mostly freeway...

Hello to you I am a Mini owner of approx 2 weeks now and absolutly in love with "Tootles". Purchased our Cooper (cvt) in Charleston Sc new and it's first 300 miles to it's new home in Asheville Nc she averaged 26.7. After getting home 3-4 days around time with me driving in the manual shift drive that average increased to 27.3. This Mini is the wife's daily driver (alas, I get her on weekends) and she uses the standard "D" and after 6-7 seven days the average at 28.1. I have driven the past three days in my favorite manner thus far and after fill up saw that my average was 27.6. Would say however that did realize that last 10 gals was only 89 octane that had been run on (oops). Tootles is still within her break-in period so have not been able to run in the "SD" mode as yet. Still however I can not complain about any milage and this never was a factor in decision to purchase but look forward to seeing what average milage will stabilize at.
