R50/53 Looks like MINI is finally covering the ps pump failures for 13years or 150k miles.
I think as long as the repair was done before the 150k mark they should still honor it. Seems like the current mileage should be irrelevant.
Well that's a pile of ****. The entire winter I my steering felt like a lumpy sack of potato's. Summer came around and its went away. Likely it will come back this coming winter, but it wont matter because I have a 2006MY. Thanks for giving me the shaft MiniUSA.

I just heard from someone who spoke to a MINI rep who said there is supposed to be a second phase coming out that will cover all R50/52/53 MINI's. So let hope for all MINI does this.
This is awesome news. Mine is production date August 2005, so I'm currently not in the pool of covered vehicles. Right now my ps fan does not work... Thinking I need to address that before the heat comes this Summer.
I'm not sure if my dad got a check from the dealership or from MINI USA but I know that he got a check for about $1100 last week. He had the pump replaced on his '05 MINI Cooper S at the dealership so the check may have come directly from the dealership. He sold his MINI shortly after that so that he could buy my sister the car she wanted. We loved that MINI. It was really reliable and that was the first repair we had had to make on it at the ripe old age of 7 years old.
I'm in Ottawa and I just bought a used Mini and called the dealer to see if there were any outstanding recalls and I inquired about the PS steering pump "warranty" and I'm covered until 2016 or 200,000.
So yes, this is good for Canada too.

Yes, got it last week. They reimbursed the cost of the PS Pump since I had the work done by my mechanic.
Anymore news on this? I haven't heard anything about it. Fingers still crossed.
What if the fan is froze?
My steering feels like it has little dead zones (I feel "bumps") where there's no power assist when turning from lock to lock on hot days.

BTW, get it looked at before the weather changes much more -one guy said his steering when felt lumpy like a sack of potatoes all winter, and now it seems better.
Edit: I think I got summer / winter backwards. Oh well

still waiting...
I sent my information in over a month ago, but customer service told me via email it would take 6-8 weeks. I plan to wait the full 2 months then start calling and complaining if I don't have a check. Should be around $1100.
Has anyone that has an excessive whining PS taken their MINI to the dealer and had any luck with getting them to replace it? I know it's just a matter of time before it goes out and being that it goes out instantly and can be dangerous if driving I'd like to get it taken care of before that happens.
I recently replaced the power steering pump. Picked it up from Pelican and installed at a local indie shop. A month later, received the MINI letter so I called up the dealership and submitted all receipts for part and labor. 2 months later still having a hard time getting reimbursed because none of the receipts contain my VIN indicating that it was installed on my car.
Anyone else have a similar experience? They're not going to reimburse the labor of course but I would like the cost of the part covered. Maybe I should mail MINI my dead pump! :frustrated:

So let me get this straight. If you had your power steering pump put on by anyone other than the dealership. Mini is only going to reimburse you for cost of the pump? Now if you had it done by mini dealership they reimburse you the whole amount? Am I reading this right.
