R50/53 Die cast Indi Blue Models?
#1
I was looking everywhere on Ebay today for a diecast Indi Blue/White MCS with bonnets and sunroof, with no luck. They are all CR/W.
Anyone know where I can get a blue MCS? (All the Italian Jobs IB are correctly MC)

Walmart has a 1/18 scale CR/W MC by Burago. Then go to your local auto paint store and they will mix Indi Blue for you in a small container...at least mine will. Then buy a $5.00 "Preval" spray bottle. The paint store should have this and sometimes Lowe's or Home Depot will have it. Since it's a model kit the body can be easily be painted Indi blue, ( or of course any color you want, MINI or otherwise). The Preval spray bottle will do a great job. Of course this is an MC model but if you have an MCS model the same applies. It'll look like it came in Indi blue. I'd also spray it with clearcoat to get the best shine.
You might want to get the paint code from an Indi blue owner before you go to the paint store.
With a little effort you can have a perfect model in any MINI color, even Velvet Red or Silk Green if you'd like.

Great tips - except I already got the AutoArt. It's already diecast CR/W.
Will it come apart to paint just the body sections I wonder? If not, how can I possibly be so good as to tape off say the chrome around the headlights, around the gas cap, around the trim - any suggestions on trimming before painting?
Yeah, I looked for that model at Walmart, and our Walmsrt, although had a good selection, all they has was the MC when I wanted an MCS, and everything else they had were Ford F150s, Nascar, and Fast and Furious. Target marketing.....
So need help with how to trim, or can I take it apart. Thanks for the advice on auto stores. Now, if I can't take it apart and if I can't properly trim, that means I can't spray paint. So what is the next alternative?

You can always try to tape up the areas that you don't want to paint.

Another suggestion to protect the trim would be to use a liquid masking product like Liquid Mask or Master Mask. It's a rubber-cement type material that you paint over the area to mask and then peal off when you are done. You can even trim it to uncover areas to be painted. Works great on things like model airplane canopies, ought to work for what you're doing. Should be available at any local hobby store, and you can ask them their thoughts on using it as well.

keddell, that is WONDERFUL!!!! Thank you so much for that idea! I didn't know that something like that existed!!!
So Lapis Blue from the auto parts store, and three screw should take it apart, and paint the body using that rubber cement type stuff to cover up the non-painted parts!
I will post pics when I get it done! All of you IB MCS owners will be sending me your die casts to have it painted! hee hee
