<<<It is a pain in the *** when the car has to go in for service and you have no choice but to take off from work for the day.>>>
But... aside from the fact that all cars need to be taken in for service... if you had 2 cars, you wouldn't be any better off as you can only drive (in myexperience, anyway) one car at a time. So you'd still need another person to follow you to the shop...

Getting back on track...
My MCS is my daily driver and I drive it ALOT. Many, many road trips, including one that lasted 6 weeks and required the front seat be open for a passenger during one week in the middle. Never had any problems... although stuffing my bike in the back is frustrating, but then it's my own stupid fault for not buying a bike rack...

MINI has been my wife and my only car for almost 2 years now. We've done numerous long trips in it and it's got plenty of room for us and the luggage. 43k miles and I haven't needed a 2nd car for one of them!

While we are a 2 car family--formerly 3!!! the MINI is my daily driver and first choice whenever we go. The versatility to park in tiny spaces---got an optimal parking spot today that an SUV had to pass up (of course, you always got to weigh the pro/cons of parking in a spot so small that the car in front/behind might hit you trying to get out!
Our other car is a 1993 Lexus LS400 which is my wifes car. The 3rd car that we sold was a 1993 Isuzu Rodeo 4WD. So yep! We sold the SUV for the MINI, which concerned my wife a great deal. But to be totally honest, the versatility of the MINI keeps surprising the both of us. With the seats folded down, it swallows a lot of things that wouldn't easily fit in the LS400 trunk, such as a 27" TV still in the box, a 5' ladder, and most recently 10 non collapsible stacking plastic lawn chairs we borrowed for our baby shower.
A few days ago, I spent the day with a friend of mine and her 1 year old son. He rode in my Peg Perego infant seat in the back, and he loved the ride. Getting him in and out of the backseat wasn't much more difficult than with a 4 door, thanks to wide opening doors, and sliding passenger seat, and of course the ease of the quick release mount of the infant seat.
As we move into a new phase of our lives as parents, expecting in a few weeks, I'm feeling confident that the MINI will continue to be my main driver, and all my non MINI friends can quit joking that I need to trade it in for a mini van!
**** revised a minute later
I forgot the whole point of my post. While we have 2 cars, I do the majority of the driving, and the Lexus stays at home as an emergency vehicle, or when my wife needs to go to work, or when we need to haul around more than 4 people. But the fuel economy--gas is about half the price, versatility, and fun makes it a clear winner to which car I'd rather drive and the wife doesn't mind as long as she doesn't need to drive!

My MINI is my only car, and I'm perfectly content with that. Technically I own one more and until recently two more but I have teenagers and you know how that goes. So far they have yet to pry the MINI away from me. They're working on it though.....boy are they working on it.
Mine's a show car too (pretty obvious), and I drive it everyday. Has some wear and tear, but is all in all pretty much flawless. I have the Mini luggage, so travelling is easy... the cool box too... all that fun stuff.
I plan on buying a Mazda3 5-door in a year or so, plus a classic Mini... but for now, my S is the one and only. Its a great daily driver.

I have two Minis - a 2004 S and a 1968 S. My girlfriend has a VW Jetta that I borrow when I go see my grandparents (4 door). I just sold my Mazda pickup truck and I am not too woried because the Budget rental place across from my work rents Ford Rangers for $20 a day if I need to haul anything.
Is this a joke?
I don't really get the question. Why would you need more car?
If you need to move a refridgerator, go to Home Depot and rent a truck for an hour. If you need to take the future in-laws to dinner, well, stay home.
I have two cars. My 1973 2002tii, i am ashamed to say, has sat under a car cover for almost 2 years now, since owning MINI.
As someone posted above, last I looked, you can only drive one car at a time, so why own two?
