Somebody needs to make a fix or a rig for this becasue the cost of fixign is rediculos ( thnak god i have good comprehenisve insurance) My MINIS passenger side door flew open in storng gusts and bent a littel bti backwards,, it flew out of the hands of the person opening it from the inside.. the doors open so wide that when it over extended, it bent metal and the hinge.. doh!.. cost are close to $1200 (including repainting the door) ridiculous! My insurance is going to pay for it to get done at the body shop of my choice, so I'll take it to the mini authorized one.geesh.. there needs to bee a way of stopping the door befeor it get to its 90 degree opening or a handle to grab quicker.. I knwo this was a freak accident, but to all mini owners beware of strong winds and opening your door! LoL alll of this for opening a door

Pretty sure that with both doors open, this car will
fly in a strong wind!

Dogspeed.

Wow, now that MINI is flying! Think if ya put a string on it, it would be like a kite?

Sorry to hear about the damage chollomo, I have had this happen with other cars as well. The MINI definately does not provide you with adequate measures to control the door when opening it in that type of situation. It becomes a problem if you are parked next to someone and the door does that. BAM! Can you say insurance rate hike?

I'm praying and hoppign there wont be an insurance rack hike.. only ecause it is comprhensive and not a collision thing. but insurance companies are evil soemtimes so who knows. I'm just jynxed that all there is too it or maybe god is punishingme for false idleship of the mini, which I think I'm am cured of completly now  anyway, just wanted to give the warning I'm thinking of retro fittign a leather handle or swing piece to the bottom of the door, especially the passenger side where poepl ont knwo any better.

If you open both doors full 90 degrees and measure tip to tip the MINI is wider than it is long......

This happened to me about a month ago. Fortunately, it only blew a short ways and no damage was done (externally). It did make me much more cautious as I open my doors. Sorry to hear yours was damaged.

I recall reading on here that the 04s have strengthened door hardware to deal with this problem. I'd ask you dealer and perhaps they will install the stronger hinges, etc.

I'll look into it!, good news tho, I talked to my insurance and it won't cost me too much to fix, btu I will deffinetly stop by the dealer to ask abtou the strengthened door hinges. I wonder if that is something MINIDivision shoul dbe lookign into. I knwo its not common, btu I could think of a lot of other instances besides wind where this could be a problem.

I believe this goes to the heart of the problem with BRGs......another prime example of the evil green turds being a handful for just about everything.....lesson to be learned by all those thinking about getting a MINI....you REALLY need to be staying away from BRGs.......they are nothing but trouble......

The only thing I can think of is to park into the wind so you have a harder time opening the door as opposed to it flying out of your hand.

Sorry to hear about your damage.

Update! ...........................................

I took the advice of the insurance dealer (scary huh) but I had heard good thigns abtou the body shop she mentioned. Anyway, They fixed it in less than a week!!! incredibel work it look brand new. I'm very happy with the work. Anyway, if you live anywhere need Manassas, VA I'd highly suggest Mastercraft autobody, they are really great and the poepl are very responsive even over the phone.! anyway, thanks for the support, I'll be parkign up wind from now on..
