R50/53 ECU update: my worst fears come true!
>>I'm with MINI USA. We'd like the opportunity to work with your dealer to help you resolve your issues. Don't jump ship. Phone us at 866 ASK.MINI and pleaase mention Reference # 200406500251 so that we can help you more efficiently. We'd really like to help.<<
Why don't you try chiming in on a thread about a real problem, like maybe the fact that I'm selling my car because I can't get any reassurances from my dealer or from MINI about the Midlands transmission defect causing seals to fail being addressed? Why shouldn't I think I've got a $3,000 time bomb under my car? Why should I have to scrounge around on internet message boards for info on the new Getrag instead of getting a straight answer from a reliable source? Why should I have to worry about my car's resale value taking a dive before I can sell it, because you choose to sweep a significant problem under the rug?
Why am I perfectly confident that MINIDivision will never even read this?
MINIDivision is a joke. I'm not impressed by their copy and paste responses to random problems, and their ignorance of significant ones. I've called 866-ASKMINI to ask about the Midlands and Getrag transmissions, and nobody knew anything. I don't see how a reference number is going to change that.
this thread is a good example of what they think constitutes response to a problem.
Oops, my bad, I actually meant to link to this similarly useless thread started by MINIDivision. I got duped by the new one, too.

IanF, thanks for your response. My car has indeed returned to normal. All it would have taken for me not to have been upset about it was a heads up from the dealer that the car might take a few miles to readjust. And then there would have been one less control-V on MINIDivision's task list today.
I'm about to put a deposit on a MCS '04 but have been watching posts like these and I am very concerned about dealer servicing and MINI reliability. While driving a MINI is undoubtably a blast, this car will be my everyday driver and I must have a very reliable car....I just want it to be fun as well. Since I am new to NAM, is there some rule against naming the dealer that you are having trouble with? How can I find out about 1. my local dealer, and 2. the dealer I am thinking of buying the car from (for availability reasons). Please help!

You might want to go to the "Dealer Rating" Forum.......
My Mini has not said "boo" once and my dealer (Classic in Mentor Ohio) is a great place to deal with. So far.....

I did the ECU v.36 update and now noticed a drop in about 2 mpg. Will monitor this to see it if persists.
Also now that my 03 MCS is at a year old more things went south:
Right Xenon light ignitor
Rear hatch mechanism failed
coin holder lid pin failed
inside of left front bonnet rubbing to bare metal on rubber radiator gasket
Intercooler cover bolt fell out

>>My MINI has been flawless in terms of reliability. The Yo-Yo and interior rattles don't count when it comes to "does it get me down the road"

As a Newbie, awaiting the delivery of my Baby, I'm beginning to get the ******* reading all these complaints and concerns. I think I've understood most of them, but what does "yo-yo" refer to?
Thanks
Howard

Read the huge thread in under the bonnet. Ryan describes it well. It kinda feels like the driver is doing a tap dance on throttle, or the car is surging as it passes threw the 2,800-3,100 rpm range at partial throttle. Mine is kinda light and passes just after it becomes annoying enough to get my attention.
10,500 miles on my MCS. I've a mild yo-yo and tranny that will occasionally resist going in gear. No other issues so far. The mini is a great car if you have somewhere to drive it. A dealer that will stand behind it seems to be key. Alot of the early issues seemed to have been addressed. Not a great urban weapon, but a fun car.

Sorry, just noticed the questions here. I have NO problem stating which dealer has screwed me around. Herb Chambers in Boston. A bunch of arrogant incompetent fops.
zgokart, I didn't get your PM. Just sent you one...

I had the same problem with v36. I had it installed and wa about to kill over the loss of power. i couldn't believe it. i also had a 275 mile trip to get worked up about. Seems after I got home, it was better. I had a stumble whem taking of in a turn (weird) and its gone. Also getting better gas mileage and all that with a fairly heavgu modd'd engine.
Still, you right they should tell you.
