Everyone,

I bought a MINI car cover from a MINI dealer in CA just before we moved back to Okla. List price of the cover was $198 bucks. My 03 MCS has always been garaged, but I knew I had to park outside for at least two weeks before I could close on our home in Okla. One night the wind and rain came on pretty strong. I was glad to think I had covered the MINI with the new cover. I was worried about all the junk that blows around in wind storms and all.

The MINI was parked right outside our window so I could keep an eye on it while parked. I did notice the cover seem to get some wind under it from time to time The cover however did fit real snug when putting it on.

Next day, I pulled off the cover only to find scratches all over the fenders, top edge of the roof and even the black A pillars that go from the bonnet to the roof area. So far a light rubbing compound has not helped.

I am going to try a orbital buffer next. If that does not work, well that only leaves the body shop.

This was my first car cover, and I always thought that car covers were lined with a soft underliner type material. This cover is all nylon. So any rate, I wanted to let everyone know what happened. :evil:

Was your car clean when you put the cover on? If not, the movement of the cover can grind the dirt into the paint. Same applies to bras.

Yep, the MINI was extra clean. I washed it everyday of the 1600 mile trip. But I do think the high wind blowing the cover around over the edges of the fenders and roof area was the main culprit.

Bought the same kind of cover from my MINI dealer when I got my MINI. The dealer did not have one in stock so I had it shipped to my house. When it arrived I opened the box and without removing the cover could tell that it was cheap plastic, (nylon?), with no paint protection....returned it to the dealer for a refund.

I have checked around and this is a good price for a Covercraft Cover in the Noah fabric. However, the Covercraft cover that I own for my 69 Chevelle is the Evolution fabric. I haven't actually seen the Noah fabric but have talked to several people who say it's the best for outdoor use. I do know that Covercraft makes excellent covers and I plan on ordering the Noah cover, (probably off e-bay), for my MINI.

Maybe you can still return the MINI cover?

By the way, my MINI dealer sold me the MINI cover at their cost, which was $118....problem was, it's not worth $20.

$129.00 on ebay. I just got one, they are back ordered but only takes a week or two. I got the NOAH fabric. Supposed to be the same stuff the BMW dealers use on their high end cars.

If you have the black nylon cover with the zipper design down the middle, that is an interior cover only. I'm surprised your dealer didn't tell you that. My dealer said to only use the cover in your garage and not outdoors.

The cover you used was sold as an outdoor cover. The indoor cover from MINI was even more expensive but was a warm fuzzy flannel thing like an indoor cover should be.
