Why would you want to? Your dealer bases your free service on this.

I would also like to know how to do this. I am nearly
at 36k and the free services are over. It would be
good to use it to time my own oil changes.

God speed.

just like the bmw counterparts, you would need a service reset tool to do this. i think promini.com sells it.

Go to http://www.miniguide.org and under "How To" section for the engine, it's listed how to reset your oil indicator. I will be doing ALL my oil changes and do NOT want the dealership here in N.J. touching the car. This is a valuable "How To" for all of us who choose to do all our own maintance.

From a post of Oct 2003, I have cut and past also.

here's a shameless cut & paste that i downloaded somewhere last year:

"You may find this useful if you do your own oil changes. Keep in mind you should wait until your factory service expires, since resetting the indicator may lead the dealer to deny oil changes since the indicator does not indicate an oil change is due.
Press and hold the trip odometer button.
Insert car key and turn it to the first position.
Watch for the word "RESET" to appear on the Odometer indicator.
Release the trip odometer button, then press & hold it again.
Wait for the "RESET" message to flash.
Release the button, and then press & release (once only)
The Service interval is now reset to 10,000 miles "

peace - bodinski

BTW It will reset to 15,000 miles.

When I do the reset sequence, instead of seeing "RESET" in the LED display, it comes up as "TEST" and I can't reset the interval. My '03 MCS has a little over 33,000 miles and I have no desire to return to the dealer. Any suggestions or help with this one?
