Hi guys! I'm with Crevier in Santa Ana, CA.

I don't think the Bujin is reporting. I've been watching the observation logs and I have never seen a report from the Bujin, or from the Atlantic Breeze (back when I thought my Mini was on that.

I am really happy to know my MCS is on the way, but this waiting is really tough.

If I've done my time distance calculations right (ok, I'm a geek...) the BUJIN should be halfway between the UK and Newfoundland. Somebody should give the Captain a call and tell him to report the weather more!!!

I've met so many MINI 'cultists' at work, it's scary. I'm going to have to take a day off from work to give rides!!!

see you on the other side!

Yea. What's the use of all this high-tech gadgetry if the ship doesn't report in? I'm spending too much time reading about Mini's as it is... this waiting for a report that never comes is that much worse.

I looked for a listing of ships going through the Panama Canal -- I couldn't find one. You would think there would be something like that.

Anyway, our Mini's get closer every day.

All right...

I'm a programmer. I'm 44 and live in Seal Beach, CA. I'm pretty much a geek -- I'm into Linux and releated stuff. I have a Linux based handheld and I run my own web/email/ftp server and do my own programming on it. http://brad.emerika.com I work for Canon down in Irvine. I do embedded programming and some Windows stuff for a living.

When I first saw a Mini I knew they were cool, but I didn't really think about getting one. I was really into my Jeep at the time. Just before Christmas I rolled the jeep on a rainy Sunday. I wasn't hurt at all, but the jeep was totaled. I ended up hanging upsidedown from my seat belt. I really loved my jeep, but rolling it so easily wasn't something I had expected and I didn't feel like jumping back in a jeep again.

The search for a new car started. For awhile I was looking at a WRX. I think it's a cool car, but a little bigger than I wanted. I looked at the Miata, and MR2 and they were too small. I would still like to go 'car' camping with my girl friend. I looked at some of the hybrid-cars, but nothing felt special. I'll say that again... nothing felt special. On a bit of a lark I took a MCS for a test drive. That was it; I had to have one.

I made the mistake of configuring the perfect Mini on miniusa.com. Then I had to have exactly the MIni I designed. After many diasppointing trips to dealers and not finding any BRG/BLK MCS's, I decided to order one.

So here I am... sharing a car with my girl friend and going crazy waiting for my Mini.

If anything about this can be said to be good is that I am really busy at work right now and I am building up extra vacation days I will use as soon as my Mini arrives. I am also constructing a mountain of Mini stuff around my desk.

How's that for an intro?

Soccer??? What kind of sport is that? Now ping pong... that's a sport... and my passion, second to my Mini.

Hi!

I'm in the Air Force right now in Denver and want world peace too! I'm a geek as well, have a degree in physics and sneak peeks at my old text books from time to time.

The first time I saw the MINI I knew I had to have this car. My first car was a '74 VW Bug, the same sort of driving experience that I hope to get out of the MINI. You know, decent performance, different from other things on the road, and a pure fun drive!

It's going to be my daily driver and I have no fear about that, we are going to go everywhere in it. I'm married (13 years) and have two boys. We're just going to have to learn to pack light on trips from here on out!

Everything on my MINI has been chosen for a purpose. The Sport package is for haulin' ***, I really don't care what people say about the 17's, I love the look and the performance will suit me just fine. The Premium package is for the inside goodies and the sunroof. The Winter package is for, well, I live in Denver! The seats are leather for the wife and the HK is for me .

I'm tired of reading the posts about the YOYO, stumble, leaks, squeaks, etc. I'm just glad I got a MINI!!!

My MCS was scheduled for production ealier this week and I live on the East coast, so I'm hoping I make it into the "March '04" club.

I guess I'm a bit of a geek as well (chemical engineer)

Hey there...

Anyone else get an email from Mini/their dealer? I just got one that asked:

1) Favorite 6 radio stations
2) if I want the doors to automatically lock at 10 mph
3) if I want follow me home lights
4) if I want one-click to open all the doors
5) daytime running lights
6) to pick a CD from a short list of freebies

This kinda stuff is really nice.

fellow geeks!

i'm glad to know that geeks ride mini's. since i'm from LA, it seems as though a lot of "industry" (ie hollywood) type people would be riding them...

well, to further my introduction, i'm 32, am also pretty much a geek. i work in a research institute at the school of public policy at ucla. my graduate degree was in urban planning, but most of the work i do now are IT projects, so a lot of web development, graphic design, data crunching and GIS mapping.

i am not really into cars. i happened to see the mini cooper on the street once, and peeking inside, i thought, wow, cool design. my mistake was that i shared that thought with one of my car fanatic friends (you know the lot)

nice to meet you all, and can somebody please ping the bujin??

Fellow BUJINer's,

Don't want to get our hopes up, but I happened to click on the Panama Canal live camera link and saw a WW ship transiting the Gatun Lock. Couldn't get a look at the name on the ship, but the Bujin may be in that region.

Could also be a bad case of hopeful wishing

For you guys whose car is going through the Panama Canal, check out this animated GIF...it's a lot of fun http://www.mini2.com/forum/showthrea...ghlight=panama
Look for Eric B's post on Feb 2, 2004 10:45am

I may be "disqualified" as I now have an EDD of Feb 20th, but I still need a Works conversion and the new hangar parts are back ordered, so I may still make it (I don't want to pick it up w/out as it's a PIA to get to the dealer's location)

hi BUJIN'ers,

given that our ship captain is anti-social and refuses to let us know where our mini's are, i'm wondering what our next "tracking" point would be? is there a way to find out if and when it goes through the panama canal? or when it actually reaches port huenneme? or are we now completely at the mercy of our dealer??

I don't know what else we can do. I even wrote a program to search the observation logs all day and night and the Bujin never reports in. There's a web cam for the Panama Canal, but it's not too likely we'll see it by watching. Especially if it goes through at night. I have not found any record of ships passing through the canal, but it must exist -- probably not online.

emerika,

your geekness made me smile! that's pretty cool! did you write a scheduled script that hits the observation logs and searches for the BUJIN call sign?

Yes... big geek here. Actually, I may keep working on this for others. I'm using it as an excuse to learn python too. What it does is read the observation logs and searches for a list of call signs. If it finds your ship, it emails you the lat/long/time, etc. I'm thinking of storing the previous report so I can give speed and direction information as well.

I'm using cron to run it every fifteen minutes, but since it never sees anything it never sends me any email --sigh--

python? cron? wow, i think you have out-geeked me!

btw, how do we find out when and if it arrives in port hueneme? the ETA is March 3rd (which is 25 days), but looking at past logs on the WW site, it seems as though ships take anywhere between 18 days to 25 days.

ok, just more wishful thinking...

Wow --- *18* to 25 days. I never thought to hope for that. I assume the WW site will indicate when it arrives. It was fairly qick to note the arrival and departure of the Bujin from Southampton.

Thanks for the ship data. So, I looked up the call signs for all those ships and plugged them in to my program. If you can believe this, of all those ships, only one (The DON CARLOS)is currently reporting in. --sigh-- I am getting the feeling, that whenever anyone sees their ship it's a stroke of luck. -- too bad. So my program is likely a bust.

Plus, I keep buying stuff for my mini and it's not here yet! So far:

Euro Parcel shelf
Whalen Shift Machine
some mud flaps
tires on order...

Cheers, emerika

Update -- I stopped by the dealer today. I'm going nuts and I thought looking at all the pretty little Mini's would calm me down some. Anyway, my MA was there and said he just got a print-out today of expected arrival dates and the Bujin is expected to arrive on March the 1st. --I believe the original date I saw was March 3rd. Then he said it could be stuck in Oxnard for 10 - 14 days...

After this he asked if I wanted to take a drive... Of course! He just handed my the keys to a BRG MCS and off I went. I was a little shocked they'd let me take it out alone. That was great. Played with everything -- adjusted everything. Drove a little bit nuts... came back about half an hour later.

hmmm why isn't this helping?
