Locked out of my 2004 R50!

So it was a beautiful morning today and decided to take the motorcycle to work instead. But when I came home later to run an errand I saw that I had left the key in the ignition and I had left the lights on! So, LOCKED OUT! (I only have 1 key)

So I purchased a locksmith kit from amazon which should arrive tomorrow. but in the mean time, is it safe to use a slim jim on a 2004 R50?

A lot of cars won't lock the doors with the key in the ignition. Don't know the answer but I too have only 1 key and live a couple hours from the dealer.....
Guess I need to take a trip by there soon.

Good luck.

Your MINI is just mad at you for taking the motorcycle.

You won't get it with a slim jim. The lock motors decouple from the lock so that theives can't slim jim into your car.
The best advise I can give you is to return your amazon kit, and just order a key from the dealer, you can get a plain key for about $80, you should have a second anyway.

At our local MINI car show I watched a pop-a-lock person open a MINI with the keys locked inside (though not in the ignition). They pried the window open a bit, pushed an inflatable bag through and inflated it a bit. They then pushed a long hooked rod through the small opening. The unlock button wouldn't work for some reason but they were able to pull an inside door handle open.

So you might try calling a pop-a-lock type.

Val

You can get (order) a plastic wallet-spare key for like $35. from the dealer. I don't think it will ever start the car, but it's perfect for getting you back in. Keep it in your wallet (along with a spare house key) and never have this happen again .

The plastic valet key has an immobilizer smartchip and will start the car. The car must be programmed to recognize it.

If you're a member of AAA club, they will cut you a "key" that's credit card size and fits flat in your wallet, that will allow you to at least open the door as a part of their membership service, but you have to ask for it for future reference.

I lost my key to my mini 2 weeks ago. Waited till monday morn. Called Tom Bush Mini In Jax fla. and the parts guy fixed me up with a key for $80. It start and unlocks the door and the door locks go crazy cause they lock and them unlock because of no chip in the key. 2days later I found the good key in the driveway. I needed a 2nd one anyways.

Achilless: no, you have to bring in a key to be made. they do it right there and the key is formed. it's flat like a credit card and fits in your wallet.

I just got a second key from my local MINI dealer (a "just in case" backup). It was the full size key, but without the remote lock/unlock buttons. It was $54 plus tax, and came with a pre-programmed chip inside.
