I need to choose between the DSC function and the MFSW on a new Cooper. I live in Utah and am familiar with driving in snow/iceand I'm not sure if DSC would be a huge benefit on the Cooper. I've heard almost everyone rave about the MFSW, will the stereo system controls be awkward if I don't get the MFSW?

I've learned alot so far, Thanks for your input!

if i was to get a mc, i would concentrate on making the car luxurious to
drive..therefore, the multi-function st wheel would be my choice over
DSC if i had to choose between the two.

If you're in slick road conditions, the DSC could be helpful at times. I'm in Oregon, and the wet conditions frequently make the DSC a good idea. The MFSW is a MUST HAVE, IMO. Here's where I'm confused: if you're spending between 17 and 20 K on a new car, will the $350 or $500 really make that much difference? You'll be living w/ your decision for quite some time, so cutting corners this close doesn't make much sense to me. If it were the nav system at $1700, then I'd understand the hesitation, but if it were me and I thought I'd like both features, I'd get them and figure out how to make up the small amount of extra cost.

Doesn't the MC come with ASC if you don't get DSC? So it's already there, in a manner of speaking...

I know I wouldn't want to live without my MFSW! Now that I've had it, whenever I drive a car that doesn't have one I get a lot more distracted working the stereo controls!

Go for the MFSW...

The short answer would be ..get both why not. i also live in utah and it is very worth while having them regardless of cost. Even more so when you drive the canyons each day like i do.

I agree with the get both mentality. It's not that much more, and it will make the car more enjoyable and curse me for saying this but more appealing if you ever sell it.

That being said, I turn my DSC off in the snow or when I want to get all tight in the twisties. I couldn't dream of living without the MFSW.

I use my MFSW on every single trip in the car.
I turn OFF DSC on almost every single trip in the car.

I agree! Why would you have to choose between these two? If it's the dough, $500 over the years you own it won't amount to much.

And whether you use them or not, it will be easier to resell.

Red

While the "both" argument does make sense, if cost is really that big a concern I too would vote for the MFSW. I don't have DSC and have never missed having it once. (...I'd be among those turning it off, too) I don't have a MFSW either but folks are traditionally pretty passionate about it! Either way, you're going to LOVE your Cooper!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Get the MFSW because you don't want a car without cruise control.

>>ASC is stock on all MINIs.

nope.. ASC is stock on all MINI COOPER S's not MINI COOPERs

DSC is optional on both ASC is N/A on MC

I got one from the lot (MC w/CVT) and it had the premium package, and the cold package and sport seats.. I was wanting the DSC if i had ordered it...
and have since found the car starts in the snows (from a light) with a slight veer off.. not sure if DSC would have fixed that... (It works in the snow with my Saturn SL2 with Traction Control)

maybe I have to drive it more in the snow to figure it out,,,
I was surprised since in the rain it is the BEST car i've ever driven in the rain.. handles like it's dry road!

Rob
