R50/53 Link to European Style License Plates...is this street legal
Saw a link to this site the other day and lost track of where the thread went to. Anyway, this place in the US sells custom license plates that are European in style. Has anyone gotten these and are they legal in all 50 states?

I believe they are legal as long as if you live in a state that requires a front or back plate, that you have the front plate displayed....if you are fortunate enough to live in a state that does not require a front plate, you can use the euro tag.....and I am jealous of you....
I personally live in a state that requires a front plate....but I have a euro plate.....
I was at a show yesterday and my front tag is currently in my boot....shhhhhhhhh.

Hello big signs! Here in europe we want exactly the other thing!! We want US licence plates because ours are so big and ugly!! That's so funny I think. Shall we trade my plates for yours and we be both happy. Any way let me know what you would like on your plate and I can get them made up around the block and then you can get me a US licence plate with S4Sxy ( S for cooperS and the S stands for (4)Sexy)LOL.

Ask your state DMV....if you are asking can you replace your state plates with these with the same number???? No. I think that would be illegal in all 50 states.

You could also just remove your front plate even if the law doesn't permit. My brother has had his off his PT Cruiser for nearly a year now, and when I had my Beetle, I didn't use one either. He's been pulled over for speeding, but no comment from the cops. I've never been pulled over (knock on wood), so maybe I'm lucky. ::shrug::

I think they would be legal if you only had them in the front. People always have the Football Teams and what have you on the front plate. Rear plates you would have to have your state issued plates. I've had front plates off my car for the longest and never got pulled over, but i also had a magnetic flag covering my rear plates for a few days and drove by many cops (they seem to be everywhere in my town) and I didn't even get pulled over for that. But I'd definately make sure with the DMV about the rear plates before putting them on.
