I was out cruising with a friend, and found an extrordinarily large amount of people (even for a MINI) that wanted to talk about my car. By the end of the evening, we went downtown, parallel parked, and before I even had the car turned off, a homeless man on a bike had already stopped, in the middle of the street, right next to me.

As soon as I open the door, he immediately asked what sort of car this was. I told him, and we then had a talk about the engine. Impressed, he asked who made the MINIs. I gave my normal response, that BMW was manufacturing them mostly in Britain. He nodded, looking the car over, and said " Ah, Bavarian Motor Works."

Most of my friends don't even know what BMW stands for, let alone can have a talk about the merits of my particular engine. It made me really bad for this guy. Who knows what these people have gone through to get where they are. I gave him a few bucks, and he pedaled off.

Be nice, and help out the next homeless man/woman you see. You never know what their story is.

Good for you, Multi! The kindness you showed the homeless fellow was truly in the spirit of a MINI enthusiast! Kudos!

Cheers!

Excellent story!

Pat on the back and kudos to you!

I too have a similar story...... although i don't have my mini so it isn't related in that way, but i was on my way to my first ever Mini Meet in fort lauderdale!!

As i got off the i-95 exit ramp getting closer to my destination... i stopped at a traffic light where a homeless man was selling newspapers on the side of the road
(down here the newspaper company, sun sentinel, i guess gives these guys jobs selling newspapers........ I assume they give them some kind of wage and on top of it they receieve tips) Anyway, I saw the gentleman in front of me at the traffic light wave the man away..... and i felt bad.... i mean after all, he's only working to try to get some money in his pocket to feed/cloth himself and/or wife and kids on top of it, just like everyone else in the world.... so i quickly grabbed the altoids tin i had sitting on the front seat next to me which had all my money in it....... and i bought a newspaper and gave the guy an extra few bux as a tip.... he thanked me, as he noticed my name tag (i custom made my own name tag for the mini meet with "DaveFrehley" on it, and a mini logo sticker in the corner )and he asked me where i was headed and i told him where i was going, and he seemed genuinely interested in the conversation..... it seemed to make is day and he thanked me again as the light turned green and i drove away........ It felt good knowing that i had that effect on him...... just by giving him a few bux and talking to him..... after dealing with so many people who look down on him because of his situation..... it's good for him to know that there are people who care...... and not everyone thinks they're better than he is...... and i have alot of respect for the people who still try and work and do something even when they're situation is grim!

Sounds like he had enough on the ball to get cleaned up and find a job.
