Another issue with ethonal...it is not compatible with our pipeline system...so it is delivered by truck or barge, to where it is blended...so more ineffecency there, and it actually increases the vapor preasure of the fuel, so it increases ploution from fueling on hot days (made less bad by the vapor recovery hoses on newer pumps, mandated in most areas, for all but the smallest stations). Simply put, IMO, ethonal should stand on it's own merits, but goverment mandates have pushed us to use corn and other grains in ecnomicly stupid ways...sugar cane, like in Brazil, or if celoustic ethonal gets more devoloped, does, or can make sense, but using corn, when folks are starving due to the high price of grains is just poor use of farmland, fertlizer, pesticides, and the diseal fuel needed to grow them...it is by many accounts a net energy loser, but it does provide some jobs and make some $$ for big corporations due to subsidies and blending credits (given to the local stations).
