Hey everyone, just looking for some input on a good source for stock rotors and pads front and rear. Thanks!

 

You could buy a kit from one of the vendors...some pretty good sales from time to time to time. But rotors are kinds heavy to ship, and I have bought them online before....when I could get free shipping. I would recommend buying your pads, sensors, and fluid from a sponsor after discussing your needs....some like Green stuff/hawk/carbo-tech..depends on your needs and driving style. I would the most likely get my rotors localy.... Unless you can get free shipping or a realy good price, they get pretty $$ to ship.
See you specify stock.... I would reccomend quality aftermarket.... Generaly better performance at the same cost, or same perfomance at a lower cost. Many seem to like mintenx pads as a close to oem replacement with lower dust. Still, chat with a good vendor like WayMotorWorks, and they can give you some good recomendation and a pretty good price.

I recommend buying new pads and rotors off Ebay. For around $210-$230 shipped you get 4 brand new drilled/slotted rotors with ceramic pads with warranty. I have no idea how these companies afford to sell brake rotors and pads for such low prices and still make a cent of profit.

I've been buying my rotors off Ebay the past 5 years. I usually keep the free brake pads and upgrade to Hawk HPS or HP+ from a local Mini vendor. These sellers have around 10,000-15,000 feedback ratings with 99.6-100% of them being positive. There's nothing to worry about.

Please use a MINI shop like myself, DT, or Helix. We all can offer you OEM, or better than OEM parts at the same or better prices. Supporting these MINI shops help keep us going in these hard economic times to ensure will be here in the future for you. Plus buying from us when you call we can help if you have problems unlike your cheapo internet only sites.

 

Most recently I have been using autopartswarehouse.com for any car part I need. Their prices are unbeatable plus free shipping on any order over $50. I have also been using the coupon code "truckin" which gives me another couple bucks off.

There is a downside though I would confirm model numbers with the part manufactures because they are not always correct on their website.

Plus the fact that so many e-evilbay stuff is buyerbeware...lots of stories of people having lot of trouble with the "free" pads that are tossed into the eBay kits...most likely couterfit/really poor quality pads. After the sale service is well worth the price.

 

Hey man its your money so its not up to me to tell you how to spend it. If you want to go to the dealer and pay $1200 for them to install new pads and rotors, or $350 for their "special" oil change, go for it. In tough economic times, I'm really trying to watch how I spend every dollar. That's why I'd be happy to get basic service done at a specialty Mini shop like WMW or DT or Helix, but when it comes to buying a few routine maintenance parts, I might buy those elsewhere.

Please don't use the "buyer be ware" excuse on most Ebay shops. The brake rotor sellers have thousands of happy customers with 99.6-100% positive feedback. Their feedback speaks for their product. I highly doubt if any MINI vendors would have that high of a feedback if we could rate them.

 

Not to argue with you Yuri, but we both know of a local vendor that would rate darned near 100%. Yep Aaron at Outmotoring is that good. I would gladly spend a couple of dollars more for his expert advice & customer service.

how many ebay or "big box" parts sellers are going to take your email, calls and or texts at night or on the weekend? Not many if any would.

Most NAM vendors are here to really help, not just sell parts for parts sake.

Every week someone brings a car to the shop for us to fix AFTER they already "saved" money on parts or at another shop. Just be careful where you try and save money, it could end up costing you much more then you saved.

 

your local AutoZone probably has what you want on the shelf....mine carries 3 different types of pads for GEN1. No shipping charge issues there.

 

I ordered my pads, Mintex Redbox, from MINI 'guys', got my rotors through local advance auto bling store: no shipping, local club discount, recommendation from another NAM and SCCV member who uses them on his track MINI ...

I appreciate and respect the advice of the experts on here (As an old racer and mechanic once told me, they're an expert 'cause I think so, not because they think so), and one of those, Way, makes a good point (above) - I try to balance that with 'shop local', but usually that's decided by the type of part - a lot of stuff I want isn't available locally, and any 'specialty' shop is prob reselling stuff I can buy direct ...

I'll second the opinion that you can get better parts for better prices than OEM through vendors - and (btw) we're talking wear items, so the collectable-thing doesn't apply ...
