Transmission maintenance help requested: what do we do to make sure the gearbox lasts a nice, long time? My '05 has about 70k on it.

Change the fluid and don't crunch gears.

I change the fluid in my '04 every 25,000 miles with Redline MTL. Fluid changes are very easy on these cars. Just remember to get the fill plug out first so you don't drain and then have no way to fill.

 

Yep! Redline MTL will do the trick.
186K miles with no trans issues!

Does the tranny and dif share the same fluid?

I have a nice pump (it was cheap) that drops into the oil bottles and clips to the lip... works really well versus dropping a tube down from the top.

Edit: i'm asking about Redline MTL, which doesn't seem to be for sale over the counter nearby
