my dealer is telling me it's an 8-10 month wait to order an MCS. is this typical? i've been reading these forums for a while, and i thought i've seen people talking about 3-4 month waits.

early_apex,
Aloha and welcome to MCO.
Yes it may take up to 10 months to order an MINI depending on where you live.
Some dealers charge up to $3500 above MSRP while they are at it.
Demand for the MINI is quite strong and supply is fairly low.
Try the used MINI market or buy from a dealer that has something on the lot in stock but there are likely to be some dealer add ons that you might not have wanted.
Good luck,
Send me a PM if you are on the west coast for more ideas.

Location is everything. The wait on the west coast is long. However, I ordered my 2004 MCS in early August and pick it up later this week at MRSP. So if you don't want to wait consider buying from a dealer with a shorter wait and drive it home! I know that Roadshow Mini in Memphis, usually has a couple of MCS on the lot available if you don't want to order one.
Good luck

If your going to have one shipped try Mini of the Hamptons,Ship anywhere for $1000 MSRP with NO add on's. I live in the NW with a 8-10month wait ,bit the bullet and should have mini mid NOV. They have a ad on this site, if you do, ask for Jerry in MIni sales, seems to be nice and willing to work for you.

thanks NWMini, i was looking at their ad earlier. i'd really prefer leatherette, and none of the Ss they show in their stock have it.
btw, did you order a car through them, or buy one they had in stock? i'm near portland, where inthe NW are you at?

Ordered my 2004 MCS first of August for MSRP in EXACTLY the color and options I wanted. Arrived last week to dealer with exact color and options ordered. Will fly in this Friday to drive it back. Don't pay over MSRP, shop around. NO car is worth over window sticker price. Good luck
FYI...
I ordered my '03 MCS from Westchester MINI (Elmsford NY) on April 05, 2003 and picked it up on June 12, 2003. I bought only the options I wanted (Premium package, Sport packeage), in the colors I wanted (CR with white mirrors & wheels), and paid straight MSRP. And what little service I have needed at Westchester BMW/MINI has been absolutely first-rate.

Mini of the hamptons had a cancelation with the Options and Colors combo I wanted. The car was in transit and I only had to wait a week. Bought the car over the phone and traded in my '03 cooper. If you call dealers in your area, you might be able to find the car you are looking for. Here in Boston, Peabody did not have any S's in stock (they do now) and I refused to do buisness with Herb Chambers.
Good luck!
>>so if i want one sooner, would my best bet be to order from a distant dealer, and then either fly out/have it shipped?
You can find dealers who have shorter waits if you go to more remote areas. The dealers have a maximum number of vehicles they can order per month so it may be a couple of months before the order is even submitted. If you do find one outside your local area I would suggest driving it home. You won't be disappointed!
