What's missing-6 switches in dash

Ok I looked around and tried to find what was missing in the 6 switch area. I have 5 of the switches and the one that is missing is the one showing a RED button here.

I found a pic (attached called stereo02) that shows another fog lamp switch and was wonder if this was some sort of stock item. Fig this may be for running lights.

So what function am I missing.

do you have rear fog lights?

that was the common missing link. once they became available in the US many ordered them simply to get the filled switch bank.

On my 2006 MCS JCW, that switch is indeed for rear fog lights.

Thanks that must be it, have an '07 MCS R52 and I know it does not have the rear fogs, which is a stupid option unless you live in England.

You must have never drivin in the California central valley in November-Febuary :eek2: It's unbelivable sometimes, head hanging out the window following the lines

I agree, the rear fog light seems kind of superfluous here in southern California. Since my Mini is a convertible, I think I will have the switches re-wired so the 5th switch (front fog lights) will turn on both front and rear fog lights, and then I can use the 4th switch for something more useful and WAY cooler: EJECTION SEAT!!!

The rear fog light does a great job pursuading a tailgating SUV to back off. :)

I thought it was the ejector seat button for anyone who doesn't appreciate my driving style:eek2:

anyone know where to get matching silver switches to add your own options?

Cadenza Jul 25, 2009 03:38 PM

That RED button is to end the world. :-)

The switch/toggle is available through MINI. Once you open up the panel the toggle just snaps into place as the contact are already there.

You dont, behind the switches is actually a PCB specific to the number of switches that came with the car. Your only option for OEM is to get a different switchboard.

I used to live in San Diego (PQ) and I can remember many nights where I wish I had some sort of extra lighting on the back of my car. Had to count offramps one night getting home - couldn't see off the shoulder of the 15, nor could I see high enough to see the signs! I think I did a white knuckle 20 or 25mph home that night.

...and of course there'd be 5 or 6 of us all crawling along trying to get home safely and some idiot blasting by at 70+.

Certain low-lying areas can (and do) get fog there.

People who ride with rear fogs on really annoy the drivers behind (usually Volvos in my experience, for some reason). A bright red light can be quite distracting and glaring at night.

It should be on only when it's foggy - not just to be cool :)
