R50/53 No spare tire???
I have placed my order, and I am waiting anxiously now for my MINI. When I told my husband there was no spare tire, he was not too happy about that.
Does anyone know why this is the case besides giving us extra storage space?
Also for those of you who are already motoring, does this bother you?
LoLo
P.S The lack of spare tire did not turn me off one bit.

I believe that the battery goes in place of the spare tire on the Cooper S models to balance the front and rear weight out. Tell your hubby not to worry since any S with no spare has "run flat" tires. There are designed that if flattened, the rim rides in a ridge in the tread of the tire, so as to not damage the rim. I can't imagine that you can go very fast, but you can motor on and get your tire fixed.
Hope this helps!

Lolo - actually with the S there is no room for the battery under the bonnet (hood). The supercharger air intake is in it's place.
The "run-flats" can go pretty far and at driving speeds (unfortunately I found out 30 miles from my home). There is almost no difference in handling or apperance when you loose pressure. The only drawback is that they are very expensive to replace ($225.00 each).

Of course, this isn't the problem with the MC... but the thought of putting yet another spare tire on a car on the side of the road just isn't an attractive idea to me... i've had to change more than my fair share...
