R50/53 Newbie - 2006 MCS clutch?
Newbie - 2006 MCS clutch?
I just recently purchased a 2006 mcs with 23000 miles with 2 months of the 3-year scheduled maintenance left. The clutch was replaced in february. (not sure of mileage). Clutch peddle feels stiff and sometimes I can hear the spring sound from it. Also the stick feels rather notchy when shifting and most of the action is at the end of the peddle although it requires me to push down far for engaging. Sometime I am noticing a slight vibration from takeoff in first gear. It feels rather jerky at the top end of the peddle height, even when revving my shifts. Anyone have a break in period for their new clutch? I hear the clutch/flywheels are problematic and want to resolve this before july.
I dont know if this may be related but I am experiencing vibrations at 80mph. It isnt through the steering wheel, but the whole car.
Any help would be appreciated. cheers.

The shifting is known to be nothcy and the clutch pedal is naturally stiff, or atleast stiffer then most small cars. (remember, its basically a BMW. Its not going to have some soft baby clutch and shift feel, ever been in an M3?) I get a little clutch chatter sometimes with my clutch and honestly I dont worry about it. I wouldnt be too worried.
I don't find the shifting notchy on my MINI, but it may be depending on what you are used to driving.
My MINI had a roughness in the peddle operation & a sort of spring kind of noise. It was diagnosed as a bad throw out bearing. My dealer replaced all of the clutch parts under warranty. In the 20,000 miles since the replacement it's been fine.
If you feel you have a problem with your clutch by all means get it back to the dealer before your MINI goes out of warranty.

Thanks guys, it shifts worse than my 2001 audi tt which is known be to be notchy due to premature syncro wear.
Anyone know if they are replacing with improved parts? I read some threads about flywheel issues, but I am not clear on it for my particular year. (2006)

just brought my '06MCS to southbay mini today because of notchy feel in the clutch pedal... 39k miles. They are 90% sure it is the throwout bearing and will be covered under warranty; if it is something else in the clutch then they say will cost me $3000.00 Dnang... i really hope it is the throwout bearing and a warranty issue. So far I have been very impressed with Southbay Mini.
clutch woes
They say they cant duplicate the clutch issues. One my way in, it was even crappier trying to get the gear selector into neutral from the gear while coasting. Good thing they have a preowned 06 cooper s on the lot, because I will have to take the tech for a spin in that one just to get him to notice the issue, which isn't all that intermittent. On the plus side, they loaned me a loaded 2009 535i with paddle shifters! I love my mini, but lets just say I am in no hurry to see it back.
I have to say, I've been to 2 different mini dealers in 4 years span and they by far are the best I've dealt with. From the front of the house to the back in service, they are quite thorough and aim to please.
