Sunroof area rattle

Hello Everyone,
I just bought an '02 MCS and since test driving it (at least I didn't notice it) the forward portion of the sunroof has developed a rattle. it seams to be around the area where the shade clips in. If I pull down on that area the rattle reduces but does not disappear. Has anyone else had this problem?

The car is on coil overs with large wheels so it pretty much rattles all the time which is fairly annoying.

Thanks,
Bryan

I have an 02 MCS and when I bought it off a guy last year it had the same problem. After two months I found the problem. Those two wind deflector flags is what was causing the rattle; and it only happens when it is cold outside (50 degrees or lower). I simply took an old mouse pad, cut two 1in X 4in strips, double sided tape, and taped them to the side making contact with the glass top when it closes and the problem was solved. I use double sided tape because as I said it wasn't doing it in the summer time.

Thanks for the tip. That explains why I didn't hear it when I was test driving the car; it was sunny and warm both days.

How did you determine where the flaps were making contact?

Just assumed (correctly in the end) the top of the flap was making the most contact with the window due to the springs pushing them upward. There is felt squares on the "corners" of those flaps but they had been worn down. I simply put the cut strips centered between those felt squares and slightly lowered. Worked like a charm; I really couldn't believe it. The other guy had taken it to the Mini Dealer for several "out of warranty" repairs for $; cost me nadda.
