>>I think I missed parts of it last time because it seemed more rediculous after a second read. OF COURSE I need a LOJACK! OF COURSE I need a CD changer! OF COURSE I need the full aero-kit! Do you really? If all that stuff was added on to MY car I would have to pass on it. Wee bit out of my price range......what could it have cost? Like $32K?
>>

OF COURSE i DON'T need (or want... sorry, I don't want to give the ability to track where my car is at any given time to anyone...), OF COURSE i DON'T need a CD Changer (i can change cds and drive at the same time...) but the funniest thing about the AeroKit, is how she/he/it basically said that every MINI on the road w/o the AeroKit sucks...

  Especially when it's done so obviously that we all feel slimed!

Cheers!

What some of you are seeing with this "fixed" dealer ratings by the dealers is what I've gone through (in the past) with some of these so-called website ranks.

For the most part they are fixed. Either website owners are doing "vote exchanges" to make it appear like their sites are so popular or they are using redirect codes, popup URLs and literally having the cgi-vote recording buttons on a few other sites, all to tally for them to get the highest unique visitor counts for ranks.

This is why I quit. When someone self-promotes themselves by cheating, it robs the real reputations of those in the game who are sincere.

For some people, "appearances" matter more than honesty?

All right...I'm about to walk out the door for a two day weekend and I had to respond to this before I left. Rest assured that the review in question is being investigated and will likely be deleted. MCO is not trading votes and this will be dealt with as soon as I return.....

Given that you were responsible for the creation of the dealer rating system it's pretty obvious the integrity of that system is as important to you as it is to the rest of us.

I think it's great that people are really trying to look at these reviews in context and questioning when a particular review doesn't seem to mesh with the rest of the experiences reported for a particular dealership.

Anyhow, keep us posted on what your findings are in the case(s) sited in the post, but in the mean time, have a great weekend. We'll be here when you get back.

Mark,
Let me clarify. I wasn't accusing that one dealer was doing a "review exchange" with another dealer. IOW, I'll write a good review for you if you do it for me. I do know this went on with website ranks, however.

But the review might not have been done by the dealer. A relative could have done it for them to help boost their ranks.

The dealer *might* be aware of what happened or might not.

And then there is the rare off-beat chance that they just MIGHT have satisifed one customer? Hey....Miracles happen?

It's just fishy that's all. Sorry if I got you upset. The dealer's not even in my area so I don't care.

Hope you have a good weekend.

Pretty sneaky way of making sure that your review is at the top, don't you think???

Oh jeez!! I leave for a vacation and when I get back what do I find? A juicy thread about the dealer ratings. There is no doubt that rating is a fake. I nearly fell out of my chair laughing when I read it. Honestly, who uses that type of language when writing a review? My favorite was "The car is hot because of the dealer add-ons, all of which I fully appreciate even though I did not specifically order them because I purchased a floor model." Hahahaha!!! Yeah, expensive dealer add-ons that I don't want always make a car HOT for me!! Anyway, hopefully we can keep our dealer ratings safe from sleazy dealers and their fake posts. It is interesting that this person has not defended himself. Makes it pretty obvious.

Everyone,
After investigating further I have received confirmation that the review was posted by a user not affiliated with MINI of Manhattan, other than being a satisfied customer.

Going through this experience I learned something useful. Although we may find that there are many poor or great individual ratings for a dealership there is likely to be a single review that is the complete opposite. Everyone's experience is likely to be different depending on their expectations entering the dealership. If you have high expectations and enter the dealership on the day that the new guy/gal is starting and is not that knowledgeable yet...your opinion of the dealership is likely to be low. If you go into a dealership knowing that they charge a premium and you want a car, they treat you well, and you end up with the car, you will likely rate the dealership highly...you got what you wanted.

When reading through the reviews keep an open mind. As strange as it may seem, even dealerships having below average ratings will sometimes deliver a satisfying sales experience. Hopefully our rating system is helping to increase that frequency. That said, if you see something you think is suspicious let us know (feedback@northamericanmotoring.com) and we'll look into it.

Now let's get back to some constructive discussions....

Mark

Hi everyone....
I just wanted to post a quick reply and follow up to what Mark posted above.

I too was a little skeptical when I first read this post. While it's very different than what others have experienced with this dealer it does seem to be legitimate. As Mark mentioned above we have and will continue to follow up on posts and comments made within the site if the situation calls for such action. This situation was one of those times. After several conversations we have both come to the conclusion that this is a real post. To support this the poster in question has just recently posted pictures of their (IMO Absolutely stunning!) MINI Cooper S in the Members MINI Gallery on pages 56 and 57.

As Mark mentioned above.... Keep an open mind. Thousands of people look through and post on this site. Of those thousands no two are alike.
This is by no means a dismissal of the problem. We know very well that it will be a challenge to keep the DNRS a clean and legitimate tool. This is why we ask you our fellow members to help keep it that way. If you see something that doesn't look right... let us know.
Happy Motoring,
SW
