R50/53 What kind of car is that?
Yup, people are still confused and don't really know what is a MINI.
I guess it will take some time before there is enough public product recognition.
Having some exposure in movies is a good way to achieve this as long as the image of a
super nimble sports coupe doesn't get too out of hand. It takes a little skill to handle the car and
stay out of trouble sometimes when testing out it's performance limits. Just be safe and Motor On.
When you drive you are educating the "public" so smile.

Comments I have had:
"where'd ya git yer new PT Cruzer?"
"Is that a Ford?"
"we're gonna go test drive one because it will fit INSIDE our 40 ft. motor home"
she proceeded to tell me about some damn ramp set-up they have so the don't have to tow
"you look funny in there..."

i was asked that and told them "at the bmw dealership"
some other woman asked me the other day "is that the new chrysler sports car"
i said "no maam, its the new baby lamborghini"
man i am such and A$*($&hole
I like the - "Is that electric?".
I've also had the who makes it question, and even after telling them MINI, and that it is a Cooper S, they continue questioning me about the manufacturer - "I know MINI, but who makes it?"

I'm not surprised. I live in Seattle where MINIs are running rampant, but when I spoke with my family in Louisiana to tell them I had ordered one, they were like..."a mini what?" "who makes that". Crazy hillbillies, don't get them started on ford vs. chevy, they will fight to the death.
red03miniS,
I live North of Seattle and south of Everett. It's actually Mill Creek, if you're familiar with the area. I see quite a few more MINIs the closer I get to downtown. As for the family, it's just my fathers side. I know, I know, I'm related, but I try to distance myself from that by trying to be more cultured...but they're still my family

Had a lady walking her dog stop by and talk to me while I was washing the baby. I answered all her questions and then she ended the conversation with
"Thats the cutest ugly car I've ever seen"
I think it was a compliment.

Only huge MINI's? Why don't they sell the regular size?

One time someone asked if my car was an electric, as I was filling up at the gas station!
Another time at the gas station this guy asked me if it had a turbo, I said "nope, its got a hemi!" and he just nodded and walked away
my grandpa is from virginia and he knew what a mini was when I first got it, I was a little surprised. but hes a car guy and knows his cars, he knows all about the classic mini.

dood peopple aint virginia aint that stoopid
I know about the dealership in Baton Rouge, which is why I was so surprised to hear that my family hadn't heard of the MINI before. I'm not the only one whose stereotyping. When I went down there a few years ago they were calling me
"City Boy" and "City Slicker" just like in the movies!!!
