R50/53 Center armrest...? Remove?
Center armrest...? Remove?
My 05 came with a center armrest. Not sure I like it. If I remove it is there anything that goes in its place. I haven't looked too closely yet... will there be any empty holes where screws were or anything?
I might keep it, but....

Im not sure exactly which one you have, but if its the one that has the backwards opening lid...you just unbolt the two bolts that hold it in with the seat rails. bolts go back in to secure the seat rails back. the armrest simply slides out.
resmini: +1, even though it interferes with shifting sometimes, I like having it. It's also a nice enclosed place for an iPod or phone.

I have 2 MINIs, one with and one without an armrest. I like the armrest but you loose the use of the rear cup holder with the armrest.
This link show you how to swap it out. You really need to replace the center console

I may be interested in swaping the armrest and other needed part with you if it is the same color. Your post says Abington, PA I live just of the blue route so we could swap both one without shipping etc.

Took mine out and put in the "Euro" MINI optional one, which works much better and frees the rear cupholder.
To do a proper "armrest delete" you need to replace the center console. Otherwise it will be missing a chunk behind the rear cupholder where the armrest attaches. Quite a few folks have done this.

That "how to" you posted is absolutely excellent. Whoever made that took great care to make the instructions very clear and easily understood.
Thanks for providing the link and file.

What I have found is that the stock one, that I have, sits too low. I can't rest my arm on it. I want a higher sitting armrest and for it to sit closer to my manual shifter.
I recall seeing somewhere that there was an after-market armrest that sat higher and forward, but can't recall where I saw it.
In the alternative, I don't see where mine can be adjusted.... can it?

If it does, to those who want the stock model, I will be swapping mine out, most likely.

btw - I'm an *** - just reread this - i meant to say that it looks from the PDF that you don't lose access to the rear cupholder - is that the case?
Also, anyone have any install instructions for the euro one?
Perhaps other members can chime in how difficult it is, or is not, to access the applicable bolts with a socket wrench.

Not sure what I'm doing yet.... I might be selling the car already.
