it depends on the dealership, i think. when i ordered my first cooper i was told i could cancel my order anytime for a full refund of deposit and when i got my cooper S i was told i could not get my deposit back. went to two different dealerships, btw.
depends on your dealer. negotiation always work!!
Be a nice guy or let the MA be a nice guy!
As long as u have no Production number, it will not be a problem.
But the dealer can always cancel their demo order and use yours, as long as it is not a MCS since it cost more and hard to push!
But you never know, there are a lot of ways for them to work out, the matter is do they want to help or not!
Since it is more work for them!

At my dealership it isn't a big deal. I bought my MCS due to an order that fell through.
Contact your dealership and beg for forgiveness and your $1000 deposit back.
Home baked cookies might help- tell them you feel like a bad boy.
So what are you going to do with the $1000 if you get it back... he wondered????

In California at least - and this might be federal rather than state law, I forget - all deposits are refundable unless the dealership can prove that they lost money/business due to holding the car for you. Since the car isn't even here yet, they can't really prove lost business, so they have to give you your money back. They can easily credit your credit card.
Most dealers would be happy to get a cancel on an MCS.The car would still be listed as a sold unit, higher priority than a spec unit. They won't have any trouble selling it.

I totally agree! and depending upon where it is in production, they may be able to add options to raise up the price and make it appeal to more people. It's those MINIs with all 3 packages that get picked up fast! but either way, it will not last long on the lot! They should give you back your deposit with no hassel!
