I live in a rural part of Indiana. Other than seeing them on car lots, I have yet to have a MINI spotting here in the Hoosier state. I did see 3 within an hour this summer in Freeport,Me, but none on the streets of Southeastern Indiana. Actually, I'm hoping mine will be the first that a lot of people see. When I tell people I'm getting a MINI, most people have no idea what I'm talking about. What's it like where you are?

I live in the Poconos, in PA, and I have only seen one mini locally to date, and I've only seen that one once, so it may have just been motoring through.

Just one more thing... what do you tell people when they ask, "what's a mini"?

Rocketboy_X Sep 8, 2002 08:32 AM

Heck, i'm one of 3 MINIs in my area, and people are still confused by what it is... (At the drive through at the bank, the teller asked me what it was, with a very confused tone..).... but my wife just says it's made by BMW, i'll explain it's like Saturns are really GM's, or that Jeep made Jeeps...

I know what you mean! Several threads on many MINI forums have discussed this. One approach is to say "It's British." Another is to say "MINI is a new division of the BMW Group and its two models, the Cooper and the Cooper S, are built in England."

Cheers!

Question, "What kind of car is that?"

I live in Louisville, Kentucky and have seen two in past few months. Nearest MINI dealer is Cincinnati MINI and another dealer in Indianapolis. There are no advertisements in the area. I'm kind of glad as I would like mine (due in Spring) to be rather unique to the area.

Peace out!

Here in Portland oregon I've seen 2 on the road, probably driving from Seatle, and one parked out side my office, California plates. Visiting San Jose and San Fransico I was surprised I didn't encounter even one on the road!
I have friends who say they had seen them on the road but no more. My guess Minis just passing through. At this rate I may be one of the first regualrs on the road, but I sure with the dealer opening any minute here in Oregon we'll bee seeing quite a few more on the road.

word.

I just got back from San Francisco. All totaled I saw ten different minis just in the city alone with another 6 on the freeways. I know then ten weren't duplicates because they were all different colors. Not sure about the highway ones. Looks like all the minis went to san francisco!

I live in Lexington, Kentucky, and I've seen 4 others around town (before I picked up my own). All different colors and options. Interestingly, of the people who ask me about my car, about half recognize it as a new MINI even though they haven't seen one before, because they know someone who used to own an older Mini. The other half want to know if it's electric! Whenever people ask about the MINI, I start telling them all kinds of things about it, but the only thing that seems to register is the fact that it's made by BMW.

Hey Goofygrape! I'm here in Portland also. I have only passed one other MINI on the road since I bought mine. Before I bought mine I must have seen around 5. I don't know where they all went! I have seen one other MINI parked in my work parking garage. Maybe we'll see each other around town in a few months!

When I was in the Bay Area I saw a lot on the road, parking lots etc, with so many dealerships in California thats were most of them are going. Here in Denver I have seen one other, it is a new MCS red with white top. New dealer plates and he works in the same complex as myself. I'm sure he must have been bummed when he heard there is another in the parking lot. I left him a note to see if he'd like to get together at lunch and talk about the car. We'll see what happens.

Oh, I saw one MINI on the drive out here (Denver) from SF. It had a Hugo BOSS sign on the car driving through Neveda I believe. I was dissapointed to see a sign on the car.
