in retrospect that was a bad idea. I drove a red 2002 Cooper a few miles about a year ago and I've seen a few others. They have my deposit and there's no doubt about the purchase. But......I've never sat in the "sport seat", nor do I know exactly what the different wheels look like and most important what do the colors look like in person. They have 7 or 8 MINIS in stock for me to check out. Who knows, when I drive an S I might have to have it. I think the standard Cooper will be fine but things like what does the new gold look like, or black with a white top. Even if they don't have cars in these colors, (or BRG I ordered for that manner), I'll at least get to look at good pictures of them. The MINI just has too many variations for me to order over the phone without more info. If I somehow delay my delivery date....that's OK.
Thanks, I needed to say this to someone.

Robert, have you had a chance to look through the Gallery here on MCO? Many of the pictures represent what the colors look like in person.

You're right, the MINI's color variations can be daunting come order-placement time. Selection may require a structured approach:

What are you favorite body colors?
What color roof do you want (if you want contrast)
now, put these two together, and you'll probley end up with only an option or two that you still like.

Example: I want a white roof, and I like Electric blue, but I don't like the two as a combo. Also, I like Pepper white, but not same color roof, however I like Pepper white with black roof, but I don't want a black roof.

you see, the if/then's are extensive and interweaving. Take some time to write it down and think about it.

--> I also think you should get an award for most new threads about the same topic

Good luck,
Ryan

I was at Roadshow Friday evening. They have several Pure silver and gold coopers, a couple of yellow coopers and S models in Indi Blue and dark silver. They usually have additional cars/colors in the back waiting for delivery to customers so you should be able to see most of the colors in one trip. They are selling at MSRP and have several unsold cars in transit if you are willing to wait a couple of weeks.
I am waiting on a PS/PS 04 S model and have found Roadshow easy to deal with.

Robert.

I had originally ordered BRG with a white top. About a week after I placed my order but before I got my production number, the MINI Club of SoCal had a run that ended up in the small mountain town near where I live. There were about 40 MC’s and MCS’s of most every color combination you can imagine. I saw a Chili Red with white top and white 17” S lite wheels and knew that was the color combo for me. It does help to be able to see the color combos in the flesh, I was just lucky to have a chance to see so many in one place at one time. I called my salesman the next day and changed my order. And like Ryan, I too am partial to the white top.

Jerry,

Spent some time looking through the gallery and on the MINIUSA website. Changing my color choice from BRG to Chile Red. Not only does it look better to me, it saves me $400 bucks. I get the feeling that I'm the only person on this board that has to consider the cost of their MINI. It's not an expensive new car compared to mini...uh I mean many, but, to me $18500, (list on my choice), is a lot of money. I guess that's a personal problem. That's for the reply to my post.

You are not the only person around here that is concerned about cost. Make sure you check everything out and buy what you want - even if you have to wait a while. I bought at Roadshow and lived in OK at the time. I had never seen the new mini in person and had not driven one. I am from England and had decided that this was the car for me. I bought it in May '02 one of the original cars that hit the deaker when it opened - I have the "000012" shirt to prove that it was the 12th delivery. Needless to say I avoided driving an S until 3 weeks ago at my 10,000 mile service. Now I wonder why I didn't order and wait for exactly wahat I wanted. Do not get me wrong I love the Mini and everything about it - but make sure you know what you want and do it right the first time.

Good luck with your choices - Motor on

I know in reading your post that you are anxious about the color. I believe I had the options that I'd want narrowed down really quickly... Then I agonized over the color combo for 2 months. Finially I had decided on the Indy Blue / White, thinking oh the beautiful color contrast of the dark blue and white... then I saw McKinneyMINIs MCS which is ChiliRed/white and I thought it was the best looking car I'd ever seen. I couldn't get it out of my head. I realized that if I bought the blue, I'd always think "I could have had a red and white one"... so I'm getting the red so there are no regrets!

Bottom line : All the options are great and we all pretty much know what we'd like. But all the colors look good so choosing one is so hard to do!!!

Good luck ion your road trip. Seeing them in person really helps you know what looks good to your eyes !!!

Robert,

You have not seen much if you are going by the MINIUSA site! - well, sorry, but it's true!!!

You HAVE to go over to the lefthand side of this screen and where it says FEATURES look for MEMBER MINIs... click that and look through each page. On each page you can click the photos to make them larger. You will see so many beautiful MINIs in every color combo you can think of. There is not one bad looking MINI in there.

and 75% of us are concerned over the cost of the cars we buy and what it will do to our monthly budget. I'd saved up some money for my MINI and then in May my air conditioner at my home went out, so now I'll finance the MINI. Everyone I know is on a set budget each month. Rarely does a person have the means to generate extra money anytime they need it. I get paid every two weeks and that is it. I have to work everything I want into it. several months ago there was a big discussion about that $400 fee for the metalic paint. Many said they got black cars to have the dark look without the cost.
