True "MINI Madness":

I'm cruising down the boulevard with a friend the other night and we pull up behind a Hummer2. I say "look how big that sucker is compared to us!" Then, I immediately note a red MCS at the intersection, 90 degrees to the left. I start waving frantically. They look at me kind of wierded out. My friend says "We're in the M5, not the MINI." Oops!!

Alright, here is my best MINI reaction to date. My bf is a veedubber. (yes yes, i know...sigh...but he also owns a turbo minivan...hee hee hee) Here's a quote from vwvortex:

Okay, let me flat out state that the MCS is, hands down, the most fun front-driver I have ever been in. I want one. Badly. Enough that I'm thinking of people I know who are surviving just fine with only one kidney. Enough that I'm thinking of whoring myself out as a consort to lonely, rich women. Enough that I'm thinking of convincing Tonya that we need to start making some babies, assuming a Caucasian child can bring $10,000 or more on the open market.

One thing I learned during my short drive with the Cooper S is that unless you're willing to grab the little bastard by the scruff of its neck and wring the drivetrain to within an inch of its life, you'll never understand the MCS's true greatness. There's just something about the pure, visceral thrill of going into a corner with my guts pressed unnaturally into the side of my rib cage because the Cooper S refuses to give up its purchase on the pavement, then snicking the perfectly balanced shifter into second, pressing the fun pedal and powering my way out. I've had dreams involving supermodels, vats of Jell-O, and a Wilt Chamberlain Carry-home Crate of Trojans that weren't as satisfying. I felt like I needed a cigarette after parking it.

Don't get me wrong, the Accord is a wonderful car, and I fully intend to reach 100,000 miles before selling it, but the Mini Cooper S is something drool-worthy. It's small enough to weasel its way into my heart, and big enough that I can't get it out of my head.

If she brings the Mini again, Matt, I'm going to sneak it back home in my glove compartment.

As I posted earlier, my kids love to hug and kiss the MINI. The first time I was going to drive it to work my 3 year old started to cry. He thought it would be staying home with him! He is a bit crazy about cars.

I'm going on 8 months with my MINI S. 9.5 times out of 10 when I go out I get thumbs up or I get stopped for a slew of questions.

The most dramatic response was a car full of middle-aged people (not just excitable kids) going the opposite way down the neighborhood street. They hit the brakes, while yelling and waving out the windows. They then backed up until I stopped and we had a long discussion about the car. We all smiled so hard, I had to take some advil.

I know there are problems with these cars, maybe even more than other cars, but any car that can make people smile so whole-heartedly can't be all that bad. Hell, it's nothing but good.

It is definitely a BMW. They bought the company and the car has BMW
parts on it. Just saw a BMW commercial on T.V. and the guy was shifting
his CVT transmision with the exact same shifter in my MC/CVT. I'm
glad I bought a BMW for $20,000!!

My best reaction happened 2 days ago. I was at a red light and some guy was crossing in front of me with a big smile, thumbs up, and a sh^t eatin' grin. I give him the thumbs up back and then realize that while checking out the MINI he is walking into the path of a city bus turning into the opposite lane. I yell out at him to stop and he pulls up just before the bus is about to roll over him.
He gives me another thumbs up and we part ways.
It was pretty cool.

Can you please take this debate elsewhere if it must be had? It really detracts from what is otherwise a very enjoyable thread to follow, and it's been discussed so many times on MCO. Thanks.

Happened to me today:

Parked in Atlantic City, guy gets out of his car behind me, walks up and says:

Guy -- "What is that"

Me -- "A MINI"

Guy -- Confused stare

Me -- "Made by MINI"

Guy -- More confusion

Me -- "Owned by BMW"

Guy -- "Oh, I thought it was French"

Me -- Shudder

Ha ...I have plenty of passing car looking at...especially...young kids..very young..like elementary kids.
This car really attracted to them. They smile at me and told their friends to look at the car.And when the whole bunch look at me I don't know where to turn.cause I have to drive!

Lately mu hub asked me you got anything call " best reaction!". I said not really. Then he smile like cheeseeee.. cause he drove his (Classic..1967) Alfa (Ferrari red) and then the 2 tourists stop looking at his car at the traffic light and then took a picture of his car!!!

Man...I can't believe that...but my MINI got compliment most of the places I go. Enough for me...ha..ha ..ha..I just drive this car for a month only so let's see.

Only had the car 3 weeks but haven't really gotten a lot of attention that I've noticed. I had a short conversation with a guy at the gas pumps who told me he used to drive an Austin 850 and it got 55 mpg.

At a highway rest area I stopped to let a Japanese gentleman drive in front of me and he first waved, then gave me the "ok" sign, then the thumbs-up.

I mostly focus on the road when I'm driving though, so I may be getting stares that I don't know about...

A friend, in Atlanta of all places, responding to an emailed pic of our MCS. "I know its a volkswagon, but what model is it"? She needs to get out more.

Ok, I just got back from a trip to Best Buy and when I came out of the store I saw a guy walking around my car multiple times staring at it. When I walked up I said "do you like it?"

He said "Uh yeah, but WHAT IS IT?"

"It's a MINI."

"But who makes it?"

"MINI does, but they're owned by BMW."

"Oh, ok. Thanks!"

Then he proceeded to go into the store. Figures this would happen right after I posted in this thread that I wasn't getting much attention.

It may be a BMW to you and thats great but to me its a MINI, if I wanted a BMW I woulda got a 3 series...

A week ago I was on the freeway doing 110mph and this older mustang was behind me, he started pacing me to probably see how fast I was going. So I floored it and started to pull away from him. A few miles later I was in bumper to bumper traffic and I see the guy in the mustang. He had a big smile and he gave me a thumbs up. He was probably amazed that a little car could go that fast...
