Ok....so I was driving to work this morning and up ahead of me I saw a MINI....at first I thought it was liquid yellow and black, but as I got closer I realized it was a color I had never seen on the road before. I believe that it was the new gold and it had a black roof. I was surprised....in motion it actually looks really nice. Pictures really do not do it justice.

I honked as I went by and the woman driving was one of those great people that really embraces the motoring spirit. We waved to each other and smiled and gave thumbs up....she definitely seemed like someone that would be fun to run into at a meet. So if she is on here....I SAW YOU ON THE HIGHWAY INTO BALTIMORE THIS MORNING! I was the very tired looking girl in the Pure Silver/Black Cooper with the shadow stripes and tinted out taillights.

I was wondering if the Solid Gold is actually selling??? I have only seen 2 in two different MINI dealerships but I have yet to see one on the streets. Here in Miami everything is either trend or fashion the minute it comes out and not seeing a single Gold MINI yet is not a good sign. I see at least 10 to 20 MINIs a day here and not a single one of them has been Gold.

I saw my first (and so far only) gold MINI on the highway outside of Indianapolis three weeks ago while on a road trip. Seen a couple of them at different dealerships, so I guess there are a few out there. They do look better in person than in the pictures.

Our dealership has only sold one.

Wow! Two GREAT stories in one morning...yours and Ant's! I wish I had a cool story to tell from today...

It's good to see the motoring spirit is still flowing thru us!

Hey LMini

Which route do you take into Baltimore? I go 97 to 695 to 295 and I swear I have NEVER seen a MINI going to or from the city along that route. I have seen a couple in AACo and there is one in one of the parking garages at Johns Hopkins (might be others in different garages). But the MINIs seem to be few and far between in my little corner of the world.

Anyhoo, I would really like to see the gold. I'm always leery of that color because sometimes gold cars don't look so great. But when I was trying out colors on-line I did do the gold with black and it looked good on the screen. I will keep my eyes open.

I saw one at the dealer which, presumably was sold. I like it. Never saw one in action though. I'm still amazed, with TWO local dealers selling MINIs like hotcakes, that I don't see more on the road. If I see two a week its a stunner! Now, if I saw a gold MINI I'd really freak out!!!!!

ronvan Jul 24, 2003 09:27 AM

I've seen a gold with black roof on the road and it does look better in person than it does in pictures.

Saw a Gold/Black parked on Oak Street in front of the Urban Outfitters...I'll let you draw your own conclusions...

I think if Solid Gold does not sell well it will soon see the ax like Silk Green and Velvet Red recently did.

However, I am dissapointed with MINI's decision to let go of SG and VR for this qiestionnable Gold color.

The gold MINI looks a lot better in person, though It isn't for me personally. I hate to see the VELVET RED go...I actually liked it.

Theres a Gold MINI parked at UCSD's Marshall faculty parking lot. I walk by it everyday going to class and smile... it still has the Irvine paper plates.

rfibanez Jul 24, 2003 04:29 PM

I've seen a gold mini at the dealer, it was ok. I'd never get one though. I really liked VR, I hope they bring it back.

hildymac Jul 24, 2003 04:36 PM

I've seen one on a truck on the way to Global... does *that* count as on the road? Actually, I kinda liked it. I'll chime in on the "looks better in person" 'cause it seriously does. Still not my style, though.

MCSurfer Jul 24, 2003 06:03 PM

i still haven't seen a gold one!

Hank Jul 24, 2003 06:14 PM

A gas station on Mill Plain Road in Danbury, CT is giving one away in some kind of promotion. They have the gold Mini parked by the side of the road with a big sign on it 'Win Me'

mully1217 Jul 24, 2003 07:38 PM

I have only seen the gold in person at a few dealerships and think it is ugly as hell. The dealer here (Ferman) said they haven't sold one of them. Ick.

I have to agree with mully. I saw my first gold MINI last night. It was quite ugly.

I've seen several Gold one's on the road in our area and at the dealership. I can say that it isn't my favorite choice but to each his/her own.

Chow!

I've seen a few at different dealerships, but only one on the 'road.' It was actually in a parking lot...

While it does look better in person than in pics, I still don't like the color much. Especially considering that they got rid of two colors that are much, much nicer!!

Donna/Mike Jul 25, 2003 04:47 AM

SCoop - I totally agree! I can't imagine that the Gold will outsell the VR or SG - makes no sense to me. Those 2 colors are so nice...

Boy - you sure are up early - you must get to work at the crack of dawn like I do - but it's still dark where you are

We ordered our solid gold mini in May without ever seeing a real one. We got it last weekend. I had my concerns about how it would turn out, but is super! It is a big hit here in Austin TX. Every time we stopped on our garage sale weekly route yesterday it attacted a crowd. Comments on the color were very favorable You really have to see one in person to understand why the solid color works best. To me, it makes the care look classic. It is my wifes car who os 4'9" and a grandmother, thus the Texas plate of MINI MA!
