I'm been looking to purchase a cooper S since it fints into my 23-24k range and i was wondering how your insurance companies treated you with this car. My main concern is that it's a 2-door vehicle, which I think in their books is a sports car. I was hoping that that due to its size and the image to the rest of the world (small, slow car) insurance wouldn't be too bad. Anyone have any comparisons?
thanx

MC

Read this thread, MCLite.

I have the same concern, but it sounds like premiums aren't too bad. I guess it helps to only have 4 cylinders!

I pay $190 a month for Geico insurance. I have a $500 deductible (comprehensive and collision), $30k/60k bodily injury liability, $25k property damage liability and a couple other things. I'm 27, live in the SF Bay Area, and have an excellent driving record. (Incidentally, my mom has the same coverage, lives in the same location, and pays $45 a month for her '99 Corolla.)

$190 a month sounds insane
Is this comparable to what other people are paying?? If so, why is it so expensive?
I paid the equivalent of $110 a month when I had my MINI in Mexico City, and mexican insurance is usually super expensive compared to U.S. insurance..

My MCS is almost the same cost to insure as the VW Jetta I traded in. To be exact, the MCS is $6 per year cheaper.

actually, $190/month for 4 cars, 2 motorcycles AND a house is pretty good. assuming that you have their recommended limits. Also, in most cases what determines how your car is classified as a sports car or intermediate sports car is the power to weight ratio...

Without sounding like an old man, I have a feeling that some of the people that have posted on this thread are seriously underinsured. 30/60/25 is around the legal minimum. I understand insurance is expensive but consider what would happen if you were in a serious wreck, multicar pill-up, fatality, etc. Those limits won't do anything to C your A. The purpose of insurance is to protect you and those limits do nothing of the sort. Sorry to post this but growing up in a family that has had three generations of insurance men in it pounded this into me.
Chris

P.S. by the way I pay over 3000 dollars a year for my full size chevy pickup. 24 with way too many tickets to mention.
