Friend, I'm sorry, but I don't think you personally have a thing to brag about. That's not "cool." Adults earn things and pay their own way. Your parents may have always taught you to pay cash -- but they're also discouraging you from becoming a grown-up. Anyone who's graduated from school, but thinks it's cool that their parents are still bankrolling their life's necessities, should stay clear of me.

Whoa, I know that i am spoiled, but thanks for the lashing. Let's spread the motorin' spirit!! I appreciate and love my parents very much, I don't take them for granted. I didn't buy my MINI at Braman (they are idiots!!) or any other MINI dealer, we bought it at a Jeep dealership. H2O

Cool beans. Didn't want to give you a hard time. I see you have your priorities in place. So you got the MCS at a Jeep dealer? Was it used?

Miami - South Motors
$21,950
$5,000 dn
$349 mo. x 60 mo.

I tend to keep my cars 10 years plus.

Insurance sucks here, tho.

$1400 for 6 mo. for 2 cars full coverage. $250 ded. ('02 Dodge Ram + '03 MCS)
Safe driving record. Great credit. No underage drivers.

As opposed to my classic car insurance:
$135 PER YEAR FOR 2 CARS
$0 deductible, full coverage,
declared value ($12K for MGB and $6K for VW bug) in case its totalled
Cars just need to be garaged and have a 5,000 mi. limit per year, oh, and you need to have a second car that is your daily driver.

honestly, i hate yall who get to "brag".
i am working 2 god damn jobs, 15+ hour days, and i still have senior year in high school to complete.

for the guy who got one for graduation and is spoiled, wow, hurrah. come to illinois and brag and get knocked the f*** out.

hard earned is one thing to brag on, getting your parents to just buy the thing since they are rich is another bragging right.

grantid, i would "assume" my parents could afford the car with the options i want, but i will be 18 in august and wanting to learn how to do stuff without my parents always there for me to make my decisions whether to buy that pokemon collectors set or a mini cooper S.

sorry if i someone took this in anger, i just hate braggers who got free stuff and think they are so bad.

also, cooper4us *or anyone else*, you say you got a MINI '02 Cooper CVT. whats the CVT stand for/etc.? looked around and never heard of one of those. *NO FOR REFERENCE I DID NOT DO A SEARCH*

The '04 MCS <------= what?

by the way, thanks all who have posted insights on this, it is GREATLY appreciated

I hope you don't hate me for getting free stuff from MINIUSA, like a coffee mug that fits in the holder, MINI journal and pen, MINI games, etc. I also think I'm bad because I'm a MINIAC !!

CVT....Continuously-Variable Transmission, kinda like an automatic. It's one of three available transmission for the MINI

Here's my story....
Paid $24,300 plus tax=$26365.60 for my 2002 MCS (all packages except nav)
Traded in a 2001 Pathfinder LE ...got $21,000 from the dealer.
(Now after a year.....looking back I should have sold it privately as I would have rec'd more dollars...but I really wanted the MCS  )
Wrote a check for the difference.

Mods to date =approx $3600 (rims. tires, sway bar, intake, pulley, brakes, stripes, tinting & various misc stuff...lost approx $200 or so due to reselling 2 exhaust systems that were tooo loud for me)

Future mods =approx $1400 (exhaust & ecu)

It's ...real close to becomming a $30K vehicle.

Insurance here in NY is approx $1300/year

I planned on keeping it in the family for years...as I felt that being the 1st year release in the states ...it would have some value for the grandkids
With 19+k miles on it after one year (which was 7/5)....seems unlikely that I will keep it.

Luv the car

Peace,
D

My parents are "so bad"!! As I said previously, I KNOW THAT I AM SPOILED, sorry to make you angry, good luck saving up for for your MINI xzibbit99! I know that I a never going to show my parents the appreciation that they deserve, so I thought I would tell everyone on MCO how great my family really is!

Cooper CVT ----> Continously Variable Transmission. Is an "automatic" transmission that has no gears and it is not hydraullically actuated like most normal 3 or 4 speeds automatics. The CVT is a $1,250 option only offered on the standard 115hp Cooper model. It is not available in the Cooper S. if you have any further questions about the CVT, send me a PM.

'04 MCS -----> Yes I have been on a 10 month waiting list at my dealer to get my '04 MCS. Scheduled production for September and delivery in October. 2004 model year production begins on Sept 1st, 2003 at Oxford, UK.

not really unless a model has been changed
or upgrades have been made

like a 99 nsx has the 3.2 liter motor, but the 92 has the 3.0 liter motor, though the body style is the same

yeah, hate to admit it to, but I paid cash. Zero monthlies.

However, I full well understand the arguement to finance or lease things that DEPRECIATE and pay cash for things that APPRECIATE. For me though, that just didn't make sense.

That said, this car, in my mind, is SUCH a F&*king value that I couldn't resist. $30-40, even more for a Bimmer, or a Lexus (yeachies) or somesuch? Not when I can pay very early $20's and get everything in a car I wanted.

(Ok, the Magnaflow, Moss stuff, BMP stuff, extra gas from 18k a year tooling around etc certainly add up, but I chalk those to entertainment, not transportation.)

If you are pressed, lease or finance. If you have a home, take out a home equity so you can deduct the payments. If you are flush, just screw it and pay the cash and enjoy the ride.

And don't forget to factor in the long warrantee and free maintenance. That, to me, is very valuable. Ever pay to have a major service done on a BMW?...

David

well a mini isnt exactly marketed in the same segment as the 40K bimmer

according to ur argument, just cuz i can get everything i want in a car in a 21K camry, doesnt mean the sc400 in my garage is worthless

I financed my Mini w/ a balloon payment at the end of 36 months of $11,000. Last month I refinanced at 4.79% for 59 months @ $397.16 ($21, 910)

Well, I could make an argument that a car that's not driven (i.e., "in my garage&quot isn't worth much...and that a car that you drive and does everything that you'd want in a car (for some folks, that IS a Camry) is completely sufficient. But I realize that that argument wouldn't hold much water among present company.
