Drove to work today as I was dropping the car off at lunch at the body shop because some jerkoff backed into me. Since I knew the body shop owner I was able to negotiate getting my headlight trim rings painted to look like black plastic thrown in for free with the work. So I was in a good mood this morning.
That quickly changed. Went out to get my car from on the street in downtown Portland. Had the sunroof popped, but not "open". Somebody decided to throw a LIT CIGARETTE in my car!!!! Who the hell does crap like that?!?!   TOTALLY unaccepable that a piece of FABRIC costs 4 bills. Hell, I ordered a new down tube and it was only $38??!? I'm PRAYING that they got it wrong, even though I asked the guy AT LEAST a thousand times if that was the price for JUST the fabric lower seat cover piece on a sport seat with space cloth. I'm so flarking mad I could stomp up and down on my entire desk and turn it into bits   Please tell me this parts guy had it TOTALLY wrong and it's not going to cost me $400 to fix what SOMEONE ELSE did to MY MINI!!!! R |
>>Please tell me this parts guy had it TOTALLY wrong and it's not going to cost me $400 to fix what SOMEONE ELSE did to MY MINI!!!!
For that price you could get an aftermarket Sparco couldn't you? <note to self: Close the sunroof when leaving Cooper unattended> |
Yeah. ALWAYS close the sunroof.
|
Is it just me, or does it seem that the MINIs get a lot more "spite" damage than other vehicles?
|
That completely sucks. It seems that we've had a rash of vandalism threads on MCO lately. Argh. I hate to think that this is anything more than random (it's summer, people are getting goofy, etc.)...but of course that doesn't make you feel any better.
If it IS $400 (and I'll bet it is), then hopefully you have a low insurance deductable and that'll cover some of it. Alternatively, how big is the hole? If it's not more than the size of a nickle (smaller?), then maybe you could patch it. I know that this sounds a bit hokey, but if the hole is small and is in a solid part of the pattern, you might be able to trim a bit of fabric from the underside edge of the seat and actually sew in a patch. I can't picture the space cloth pattern off hand, but most car seat fabric patterns are abstract enough that they'd not show a small patch. Just a thought... |
I know the feeling.
Went to the movies last weekend. When I cam out, someone has spit on the back window and it sprayed up on the roof. I guess people are just bitter that we could have such cool cars, while they drive an 94 Chevy Lumina. Some people are dumb. Some are idiots....like the one whoe stole all my MINI valve stem covers, along with the other 3 or 4 MINIS valve stem covers as well when we went to our premier of the Italian job. What is he going to do with 16 MINI valve stem covers? Are they cool on your bike? Didn't see any one ebay. You have my sympathy. |
What is he going to do with 16 MINI valve stem covers? (sorry...couldn't resist  ) |
Ryan, I am so sorry to hear about it. Aftermarket seats sounds like a reasonable way to go.
"Flarking" I don't think I've heard that one before but I just slit my side after reading that word in your rant. ROTFLMHAO. >>Went to the movies last weekend. When I cam out, someone has spit on the back window and it sprayed up on the roof. Brandon, did they spit on your 2F2F graphic? Or have you taken that one off? |
*******ES!!!!!!!!! Would insurance cover something like that? You shouldn't be held responsible for the damage. The NERVE of some people!!!
|
What a bunch of jerks. I still can't understand why people feel the need to damage other vehicles. Insecure, jealous cowards.

unfortunately it is any car that another jerkoff looks at with envy....have a friend that had his Boxster totally keyed from front left side all the way to the back while he had it parked at the movie theater sat night.....he went to see the hulk, so probably some juvenile walking by the car to or fro from the movie.....just once you would like to catch one these losers in the act...! |
I would have torn the wretched scumbag limb from limb and then urinated on their remains had I caught them in the act.
I'm drafting my letter to MINI Division currently expressing my ABSOLUTE disgust with the price of the replacement seat cover. Do you understand that MINI is charging more for a lower FABRIC seat cover than they do for the driver's side air bag?!?!?!?!?! Try that one on for size and try to tell me it's a fair price for the cover MINI Division! I've already been in the shop NUMEROUS times due to warranty issues, many of which were repeat visits to fix something...like my stutter which has been "fixed" 3 times now. Do I really need to bring up the words "lemon" ?? This sucks. My normal service person is out today, but hopefully she will understand the level of my displeasure and "make it right." R |
  "Mean People Suck"  Sorry to hear about this

It should be covered by your comprehensive insurance. I had to check because some punks thought it would be funny to walk up the bonnet and across the roof of our MINI. If the damage is greater than the deductable, $120 in my case, then a police report is required.
Is this a case of good news/bad news? Good news: fewer reports of build and/or design problems. Bad news: more vandalism.  |

If the damage is greater than the deductable, $120 in my case, then a police report is required. I hate to say it, but there would be some definite advantages to having more MINIs on the road and thereby diluting the attention paid to individual examples. |
ok, R ... the part you are looking for is 52 10 7 072 991
and that is the entire lower cover: it includes the bolsters and everything already sown together ... and it may be that labour for the factory seamstress is what's jacking the price up ... |

Labor? What, did it take a week to make it?
For $400 I'll replace the entire seat, thank you. And no, I don't involve insurance unless it's MAJOR damage. And with a $500 deductible it won't help anyway. Thank you for letting me rant. But mark my words, I'm NOT paying that price. Crap, for $400 I could have the front seat taken apart and have a new color sewn into the inside instead of the stock silver!!!!! I'm just still utterly blown away at the pricing on this part. R |
Bunch of SAVAGES!

Sorry to hear about your troubles, Davbret. Have you checked with Classic Auto Campus on the seat cover? They may have a better price.
You know, in the whole MINI Motoring, lend-a-hand, drop a quarter in someone's expired parking meter, jump off a stranger, be a good Samaritan marketing campaign, you'd think if you told your MINI dealer your story, they'd sell you a seat cover at cost, since you were clearly an unfortunate victim. I know if I owned a dealership and a good customer told me that story, I'd help them out. In fact, I'd call MINI Division and mention their marketing and ask for their assistance in securing such a deal. And if you get it, I'd post a message here, and I just bet MINIUSA will get major kudos from all of us. It could happen. Good luck, JS |
Well, even at cost, it's ludacrisly expensive...$262. Classic sells it for $18 over that. That's really cool of them, but still doesn't negate the fact the MINI is RAPING their customers if they think it's a valid fee for such a part.
Personally I'll buy some a new Corbeau Legacy seat for $350 before I'll spend $400 or even $262 on a piece of FABRIC!!!! I sure wouldn't want to buy a yard of THAT fabric!! R |
Yeah at our Italian Job a few antennae were taken by aliens. Is it possible to go to an upholstery shop and have them remove the seat cover and sew some funky fabric for you?
AS far as Marketing or the dealer helping I don't know. I had my one week old "S" towed three times. I eventually got a loaner. A CAMRY. A friend had paid my entry into a golf tournament with the understanding I would take his clients for rides. I explained to the dealer that it would be nice to show up in a MINI even if it were not mine. How much nicer to have 200 participants learn how accommodating the dealer could be. Instead they were left with the impression that the car was unreliable and full of bugs and the dealer forced you to drive a CAMRY. |
We all learn the hard way Ryan
Turn this act of vandalism into an unexpected upgrade: Corbeau seat and Schroth harness. |
That is really crappy!
I hope the jerk lives for years suffering from COPD ! |
Just a thought if you're thinking about replacing the seats (when you mentioned changing the color of the center cloth). I noticed was at the Mini UK site that hey offer space cloth seats in blue cloth and black leather side bolsters. If this was a US option I would definitely have it.
P.S. A pox (monkey if possible) on the fargin' iceholes who have done you this injustice. _________________ http://members.aol.com/dreadopus/miniund.jpg |
