This is probably the second worst feeling in the world probably after an accident. I just found a foot long scratch on the right rear quarter-panel. It happened between yesterday and today.

I am hurting so bad it's not funny, whatever they used went down to the metal and back up to a lighter scratch.

Just in case you're wondering I am livid. Well thanks for listening.

Which culture was it (Egypt, maybe?) that used to punish people by scraping them to death with clamshells?

Lolo....I felt terrible when I saw the name of this post and now even more terrible when I found out that it happened to you.  Have you talked to your insurance company yet?

Lolo Jun 24, 2003 09:49 AM

I just got off the phone with them. I have a $250 deductible, so I am covered. But it hurts all the same. Anyone want to recommend a good body shop in Maryland, or can the dealer fix it. I'm so mad I can't think straight.

MINI of Towson uses an outside body shop - Carstar. I just got off the phone with them, they are thinking on average $1000.00 and upwards. $1000 is being really lighthanded at this point.

I'm stll open to recommendations for somewhere closer to Silver Spring that will do a quality job. Carstar is in Baltimore.

I'll ask around and see if I can get any suggestions for you....

Lolo Jun 24, 2003 10:23 AM

Thanks MINIClo and L. MINI,

My knees got weak when I saw it, but I kept telling myself it's just a scratch I can rise above this, but I broke down when I talked to the insurance company. You are so right I have to hold my head up and keep going.

But I can tell you this much if I ever see or figure out the person that did this I swear as God as my witness I will hurt them with every fiber of my being. God help them.

Sorry to hear about what happened, Lolo.

I know how you feel, even though it is just a car, the damage feels personal.

Hey, lets all drive over to Lolo's place and do a stake out!
Or a 'scrach out' whichever you prefer.

In the Middle East I think its an 'Eye for an Eye'.

Ummmm thanks for the stupid comment that has nothing to do with this thread.

Lolo...my friend says he knows of a place that might be good....he can't remember what it's called but he passes it on his way home from work so he will check it out today and let me know. I think it's in Crofton or something.

digitalpussi Jun 24, 2003 11:29 AM

Lolo,

I would just like to say that I am really sorry that some moron decided to deface your MINI  I just don't understand what makes people to do such stupid mean things. I wish you the best of luck on getting your MINI repaired!

Don't worry, karma will get the bastard. He'll probably have SARS within the week. I sure hope so.

Phobol Jun 24, 2003 12:02 PM

OK, I give up. I was looking for the past hour for the MINI AD i saw a while ago that stated something like: Let's not freak out, Let's not obsess about dings and scratches, let's count them as scars of character and experience.

Now, I understand that it's impossible not to freak out (I definetly would too) but It's nice to know that MINI Corp. knows how we feel

Hope your MINI feels better soon!

gokartride Jun 24, 2003 12:23 PM

So sorry Lolo. I think we all live in dread and fear about things like this. I've taken to motoring very politely in my neighborhood so I don't piss off any of the locals. I'm that worried. (...my MINI sleeps outside.) In the end, we're all destined to have our hearts broken just like this....being keyed....a bad door ding...a missing badge....even those pesky birds. We love (obsess) over our MINIs and some people (morons) just want to spoil our fun. (...except the birds, they just want a shiney target.)

Everyone,
Thank you for the support. I couldn't make it through the day without you guys.

jds,
My MINI also sleeps outside and I know exactly what you mean about motoring politely in the neighborhood because you can't watch her 24/7. I think that is what is really pissing me off because I cannot think of anything I may have done to deserve this.

My best guess right now is that the kids from up the street did it, but I can't prove it.

Anyway, thanks again and I'll be happy to share how much this ends up costing so others (God forbid) will have a benchmark.

Lolo

Lolo,
Sorry to read about this. This is a nightmare topic for most of us.
Sometimes young kids are doing this and it isn't anything personal. Rather it is a random act of stupidity.
I wonder if a car cover could have helped to shield your baby, a least a little.
A couple of Dobermans to guard your car would do nicely as well.
