Kimini1's MINI is no more. Crunch. Ouch! Other driver did not yield on a left turn across two lanes of traffic. She slammed into an Infinity QX45 at about 35-45mph. Slammed on the brakes and the force of the crash broke her ankle. The cabin remained totally intact, even the footwells. But the front is another story. Kim goes in for surgery on her ankle today I believe. They've got to put in some pins or plates or something. She was in remarkablly good spirits though, considering.

That's awful

Wings Jun 5, 2003 05:41 AM

Why can't people be more careful. ??? I'm sure sorry about the MINI and of course the broken ankle, but the MINI did it's job and thank goodness the injuries weren't any worse.

Good luck and a speedy recovery to Kmini1. (is the MINI on order yet? )

So sad  My prayers go out to Kim that her surgery is uncomplicated and her recovery speedy.

Ouch on the pictures - MINI did it's job though

Meenee.Coopah Jun 5, 2003 05:51 AM

WOW. That totally sucks! It always kills me to see that someone had to go through a loss of thier Mini. I have been in about 6 car accidents (all before I turned 21, and someone hit me in all but one), and cannot even think about how awful I would feel to see my Mini like those pictures. I hope that Kim's ankle heals quickly. It's good to know that she is safe.

Did you notice how only the two front airbags deployed? This Mini sure is a smart car.

Driving_Hamster Jun 5, 2003 05:52 AM

Best of luck with the surgery and the rehab process. I hope it wasn't her clutch pedle ankle !

dave Jun 5, 2003 05:56 AM

 Kim, best of luck with a speedy recovery. -Dave

That just makes me sick to my stomach.
My boyfriend just had a surgery like that back in November and it wasn't fun. He is walking fine now and back racing again.
I'm glad it was only an ankle!
GOOD LUCK!!

Kim,
Get well soon!
Let this serve as a reminder....
just before you hit ..let go of the
steering wheel(wrists) and brakes,
if possible, just before impact. :???:

The other driver was cited at the scene by the police for failure to yield.

Hi everyone..thank you SO much for the well wishes!!! I am actually having surgery NEXT Thursday. They cannot operate right now due to the swelling. I can't tell you how happy I am w/the MINI & of course that I am still here to tell you about this! The force of the crash was incredible. I am doing pretty well considering, I was able to get out of the car at the scene. I was "hobbling" b/c I did feel like something was wrong w/my ankle, then they hauled me away. I just had to get out & see what MINI B looked like! Everyone from the fireman, paramedics, policeman, tow truck driver, were all very impressed w/how well the car held up considering the force of the crash. The policeman said he was at an accident later that day with a VW VR6 going 50 mph into a parked trailer & it didn't do NEAR as well as the MINI. So anyway I have a few bruises/abrasions from the seatbelt, airbags etc & of course where my ankle took the blow of the crash. I'm doing ok otherwise! (And 2Mini's..I hope there isn't a next time!) And YEP I'm already in search of my next MINI!! I'll keep everyone posted on my progress.

Kim

Glad to her your're doing fine. Sorry about the car but it means a 'new' one is around the corner.

Kim,

I'm really sorry about this, but am glad you came out of your MINI as well as you did, considering how severe the impact must have been. Your MINI did it's job!
All the best and we're with you in our thoughts!

Markus
