Well know it's been a while, but coming back from the Dragon in May I seem to remeber getting about 400 miles out of a tank. There were two of us, we filled up together on I181 below Johnson City Tn. and stopped to fill-up in Martinsburg, WVa. My MINI is a 2005 MCS and the other was a 2006 MCS JCW. This was preety much nonstop highway driving at between 70-80 mph. Count in one or two potty breaks :impatient ( my bladder doesn't get that kind of milage anymore) and that ain't bad.

Just as a foot note, When asked about what kind of milage my MINI gets, my standard reply is. I don't care!! I am having too much fun to worry about it.

My OBC says I can get around 322 miles until empty, I'm averaging around 24mpg. I'm pretty light on the pedal though, most of the time.

It may be a sign that there is a loose nut behind the wheel.

Do I detect the seed of an idea germinating?
We'd have to get this past the mods first, though....

Those are just numbers, but I think we should get over 300 miles with a full tank of premium gas in city... about 400 miles in highway...
Usually I put about 13.5 gal. with about 15mpg remaining acccording the computer at the red line...
You can't use that kind of math to make your assumptions.

Go fill it up until it clicks off. Then reset the trip meter. Drive it until it's there's a 1/4 tank left.
Fill it again until it clicks. Then divide the Miles into the Gallons.
Best to note the type of driving you did on that tank... highway, city, mix, etc...
Do it three or four times, then you'll have a decent real world average.

I guess CHEQQRS is doing pretty well. OBC says about 30mpg mixed highway and city. More city of course less mpg. It seems better since adding Ultrik CAI last month. I'm not one to hold back on the gas pedal.

I average about 280-350 miles a tank.

I am from Tennessee and have been going to the Ohio State University for the past 2.5 years. I make probably 4-5 round trips from OH to TN every year. Driving about 85 mph on the interstate, I average about 320 miles a tank, but I fill it before I get too low.

However, one time last Thanksgiving, I felt like driving slow (60ish) and drove all the way from Columbus to my house in East TN, 426 miles and still had a 22 mile range.

I have yet to get through the first tank...as I filled 1/2 way on the first round to get an idea on how accurate the computer was. Needless, I'm looking to get over to 370-380 on this one with an MCSC. Lots of highway, as my wife's been taking it alot for her 75 mile round trip to work.

I've been driving it pretty easy too...just enjoying the road. I leave the spirited driving for the Speed (which I average 20 MPG )

Cheers

i honestly dunno how to calculate manually i rely heavily on trip computer is it? the 1 that u press to let u know ur mileage, temp and all that jazz... anyway i just filled up my tank and then i checked the remaining miles till gas stop.. it is 381... i have a 2006 base cooper... so i guess i win? i have a question also on the mileage window where u see ur next oil service and the clock... i pressed the button there and what i see is the clock changing to 99.9... what is that number? i hope u understand what im asking.. thanks. i just need to know what that number means..

Wouldja settle for a WASP?
Somewhere way back in the beginning my people came over from GB.
Does that count for anything?
Maybe?

I've been averaging 28mpg in my normal driving. I can usually travel 350 miles on a tank, but I don't run until the last drop of gas. My car has a 15% pulley & I'm sure that costs a bit of mileage, but to me it's worth it.

That being said, my mileage at my last track day was 8mpg!

How does one check the oxygen sensors? I read about this in the MC2 magazine insert.

I have 2006 MCS, auto, 15% pulley, Larinin cat-back, Alta CAI and hose, 17" non-RFs on PIAA Sport Mesh wheels.

I drive A LOT (self-employed mobile computer geek!). LOVE to drive with the agitronic paddles/manual shift when I'm not in backed up traffic.

My average is 22-23 MPG (mixed). The best: 27 (mostly highway - no cruise). The worst: 17.8 That was ALL city and A/C full bore (Phoenix is NOT pleasant right now - hot AND humid)!

Asked my SA about this. He reiterated 91 octane (check www.toptiergas.com) and use Chevron Techron additive every 3000 miles.

Avg 340-380.

Best 526. My door step to Microtell at the Dragon and still had few to motor around some down there. Performed this in both coming and going from there. In stock trim and 15% pulley

I have a 70 mile commute (one way) everyday. Its all highway and I average between 34 and 36 mpg, depending on traffic.

I have a brand new R56 and with mixed driving but leaning toward freeway I got 33 mpg on my first tank and 35.3 on my second. These are calculated by dividing the miles driven by the gallons bought to fill it all the way up.
The OBC for the second said I got 37.2. I can go just shy of 500 miles on a tank. The manual says 13.2 gal. but I've pretty much drained it and it will take over 14 to fill it to click off.

I'm averaging between 350 - 400, but usually on the high end, somewhere around 380-390. Depends on how bad traffic has been

I find this all a bit odd ...that there should be such dramatic differences between the mileage we get. Sure, how we drive and where we drive will account for some of it, but I am convinced the cars have something to do with it. ...I think they are inconsistent.

My MCS has 4,000 miles on it. I feed it only 93 octane. No matter how I drive it I get 25 MPG. If I drive like an old lady all week I get 25 MPG. If I drive spirited all week I get 25 MPG. If I'm stuck in traffic on my commute all week I get 25 MPG. If I go on a 300 mile trip and do 70 MPH in 6th gear most of the time, I get 25 MPG. I always get 25 MPG. Always.

This is the mileage I expected when I bought the car based on having read threads on this subject here before. 25 MPG seemed about average. So I am okay with that mileage. But, while some of you may coax over 30 MPG out of your MCSs, I haven't figured out how to do it with mine. I can't even bump it to 26 MPG.

On the plus side, its never gone down either !

I'm wondering if it's the low miles you have on your car. Maybe it's not truly broken in yet.

I"m at about 24 MPG rain or shine...

track work takes it down to the low teens.

I've been playing a bit with RPMs. I try to drive never crossing over 3k RPM, and the mileage is certainly better! Now I'm trying to do it not crossing 2k except for 6th gear. I always screw up so can't get too good mileage numbers out of the car.

Don't trust the on board computer at all. Use it to guage relative changes, but their accuracy is all over the map! Mine is off by over 30% (Quotes 32 when it's reall a bit over 24)....

For the poor soul that can't calcuate MPG manually, take miles driven since the last fill up and devide it by the number of gallons needed to fill the car, then you have "Miles per gallon"!

Matt
