Another satisfied potential MINI owner
I was sold after my first test drive. Placed the order for my MCS right there.
Cheers,

I am glad you liked the CVT, but I have a question for you...did you try taking off in either Sport or Steptronic mode? If you didn't, then I would suggest for you to test drive the CVT again using these 2 performance tranmission modes to experience the difference on how much faster the car is off the line.

Also keep in mind that the CVT does not have any gears! It is not a regular automatic slushbox at all! You need to master it to be able to get the best performance out of it.

Anyway, whether you pick the CVT or MCS in the end, you'll be a very happy camper. Good luck with your decision and welcome to the club!

The test drive is one of the most important things to do when looking at the MINI
There are so many options that just looking at the pictures aren't going to do it justice.
And the cars are complex enough that even one long test drive isn't going to be enough.
If you want my real opinion after 3400 miles and three months I would say that I'm beginning to be used to driving my MCS and I hope that with more driving school I can learn how to drive 4 or 5 times better. It's not that you can't drive it, but it more like you don't know what you can do until you have enough skill to do it.
Musical instruments are a really good analogy. take a decent instrument of any type and get a beginer, and intermediate player and an expert to play the same tune on the same instrument. The difference is remarkable. It's all based on skill. There is so much engineering built into every model of the MC and MCS that no matter what version you choose you will be able to do more with the car if you learn more skill at driving-that much is very clear to me.
And if you don't believe it try going to a driving school and invite one of the instructors to go take you for a ride in your own car out on the track and they will school you big time on driving the track. There is nothing like being in the car. Now that! would be a true "Test Drive"

Test drives on new MINI's that have less than 1K miles on the odo, simply don't do justice to the car...why? Because the engines in these cars really begin to loosen up right after the 1,250 mile break in period and they only get better after a few more thousand miles. The MINI is a learning driving experience and you don't discover what the car can really do after many months of ownership. Quite a different concept from the Japanese toaster appliances...
