Stock shift **** mounting??

I picked up a stock shift **** - 6 speed pattern in chrome - to replace what I had on my 03 S. How does this mount to stalk? It looks like it slips onto the stalk OK, but how does it actually mount to stalk? I can pull it off when shifting - what am I missing?

I believe its a tight slip fit because there is no screws or threads. It just kind of clips in place over the detent in the shifter arm. If you bought a Mini specific one, it should mount the same as a factory, otherwise you might need a setscrew for it.

if i remember correctly an earlier forum said that you just put the car in sixth and pull the stock **** off and then just push the replacement on, my dealership is going to do mine for me because the chrome on the front is chipping, so i'll ask them how they do it

Just pull up really hard and the old one comes off. The new **** should slip on and be tight. If it isn't, it is the wrong size.

It is not tight. It will stay on for normal shifting, but if you grab it hard it will come off. I think I will try the electrical tape and see if that does a better job of holding it on the stalk.

Highschoolzmini - I will be interested in what your dealer says.

Did you get the **** at the dealers? If you did, is it the one for your model? I think that there is a size difference between the 1st and 2nd gen.
