10,000 miles / oil change / check engine soon?

Ok,

I havnt got my first oil change yet (at 9700 miles, 300 miles from the 10,000 oil change), and when my odometer hit 9700 almost exactly my 'service engine soon' light came on.

Is this normal? I thought I heard about this happening with the first oil change, I just hope its not something serious!?

Thanks in advance!

The service engine soon light on the tach? If so then it has nothing to do with scheduled maintanence. The SES light is akin to a check engine light on most make and models.

Have your dealer look at it ASAP. When my SES light came on, my dealer replaced one of the oxygen sensor.

My first SES was....

My first SES was due to low coolant ....

no, under normal circumstances your SES should not come on just cuz you are close to an oil change...... It means the computer thinks something else is out of range...usually something with the emissions control, but not always. Any time I called the dealer with SES issues, they've said, "come in right now." Never turned out to be anything serious tho.....

SES... Grrr...

I had my first SES light at about 20k miles, but it was because an emissions sensor had gone kaput. At that low mileage in your case, you're obviously under warranty still. Go get it checked ASAP!

hi,
at 1,200 miles my light came on; dealer fixed the "reed switch", which apparently was stuck open. Car still ran ok, but runs even better now!

Thanks guys, turns out it was a Knock sensor. 4 hours of waiting on their comfy leather couches, I was out of there sans SES light!

My husband and I just returned from a weekend trip to Memphis - while there my SES light came on - took it directly to Roadhouse MINI where they checked it out and told me the Knock sensor had gone bad - however upon driving home today the light went out - should I still take my car in to my dealership to have the sensor replaced? I have a feeling that since the light is now out, I will be told nothing is wrong - any ideas anyone? I live 2 hrs from my local dealership so with the 4 hour wait time I will have to schedule a full day off from work.

MsBrit, the ECU stores the codes until they are erased, so no worries about "unable to duplicate". Also, Roadhouse probably noted the problem in your e-service file, so your dealer will be able to see that.

i have the same issue with mine, the SES light was on. for o2 sensors...i took my car to have a radar detector hardwired. and the installer took it upon him self to turn off the light. does this mean he erased it from my ecu or just turned off the light? im goin in for service july 12th and im afraid the dealer wont bother with it, if it has been erased. :(

Since the SES light went out I decided to delay my trip to the dearlership, however the light came on again earlier this week. I immediately called to make an appt to have it checked out - was told to bring it in today, but on my way there the light went out again. Unfortunately for me, I was told there was no indication that the light had come on in the first place, so nothing could be done. They said it was probably the brand of gas I was using (BP - 93 octane) and sent me on my way home (which is 130 miles away). I am driving out to Colorado in a couple of weeks, so I hope I don't get stranded with a sick car. Anyone else have a problem with poor gas?
