Todd, I really have to commend you on your build! I've been living with a buddy's D series build for about 4 years now (my name's Dave too, how do we get into these things?) helping him keep it on the road and debugged, so I'm aware of many of the challenges you faced and you did really well.

If you make it to the East meets west rally in Milwaukee next July, we'll see you there and I'll buy you a cold one.

BTW, my buddy is originally from Bend, wish we could make the event there this summer, but it's not to be.

I've owned the car for about 10 years and have always wanted one since I was a kid. Talk about a sleeper... it looks like it could loose a race to a scooter, well it did once when I had the little 850cc, 35hp engine in it. Now pushing almost 200hp and at 1580lbs it's a little rocket.
I told the scooter guy, he can keep his win and won't bother with a rematch.

The Honda VTEC swap has been a dream come true and took just over a year of wrenching at nights. With a wife and two little kids, day time wrenching was limited!
Now I'm driving it every time it's dry out and love mashing that skinny pedal...

My buddy has 12K on his since it was built.....

Do you have any issues with NVH?

His vibrates the car so badly he has to wear ear plugs for a highway drive.

Who built the subframe for yours?

I have about 9k in parts that took the car from stock to on the road, all work done by me so no labor cost.

Not sure what NVH is, must not be a problem then...

I have a super light weight flywheel and that combined with the hard engine mounts to keep the engine in it's very tight location make for a buzzy ride for sure. Loud is always a problem with these old minis, the engine is bolted to a sub-frame that is bolted to your feet. Well practically. Depending on RPM the car can be loud.
The guy that did my sub-frame is Steve down in Ca. (two guys really) who do it on the side.

I found it to be the best frame because it's strong, light and allows you to retain the stock suspension and best of all you don't have to cut the car!
