Giving away the keys to your car!

Anyone think this is a good idea? I sure wouldn't do it.

I just typed in and deleted half a dozen smart a$$ comments about this. This seems to be the tamest so I'll let it stand.

When push comes to shove, I'll just get a large package Drop Box that the Post Office and UPS can have access to. Something like this...

Or just start having all my boxes delivered to me at work...

This is the best idea I've seen!

If I lived in town, I'd get one of those, but I live way out in the boondocks, the nearest country store is a 15 minute drive, town is 30 minutes away, pizza places laugh at me if I try to order delivery. The roads are former cow trails.
No one steals packages here, even if they are left out for days.

That sounds wonderful, where do I sign up?

I guess it is nice that I can walk to a couple restaurants in the town I live in, but south central PA is exploding and I'm having none of it.

You joke, but the Amish LOVE the internet.

While my part of south central PA is growing, I would bet that a package on my doorstep would be picked up by a neighbor by the second day. I have no concern about packages being left on the porch.

By the way, the Amish are moving into a few of the local farms.

I have no qualms about leaving packages on my porch either, I just don't like the way the region is populating.

There's only so much land to go around and too much land in Lancaster is being lost to development. Amish have been buying English houses here for a while as less of them are going into farming. There are people that don't like the Amish, but they are good people from my perspective. I'd rather have Amish neighbors than transplants.

I understand your frustration. Southern York County like neighboring Lancaster County, has grown at a fast pace since 83 made it a reasonable commute to Baltimore. The problem has its roots in "Smart Growth" Zoning. Baltimore County has declared the northern half of the county as rural, most of the land is zoned 1 house per 100 acres. Anyone who doesn't want to live in the inner suburbs are forced to drive an extra 20 miles to live in PA where the zoning allows for development. The zoning rules in PA are at the borough or township level which makes space available for the new growth.

Outside the boroughs in both York and Lancaster Counties, there are great roads that are perfect for MINIs.
