Help needed with a new Beetle conv't-rental
I got a beetle conv't as a rental- kind of fun and it looks pretty nice in red/black- anyway....I put the top down and it kept beeping at me. I am also getting a flashing warning picture of the car with the top down and a double ended arrow like this <-->. There is no owners manual in the glove box and I have a feeling that I have missed a step in putting the top down. I pushed the button untill it would not go any further so????????
Please let me know what is the proceedure to put the top down and not get beeped at by a bug! |
Anybody know what to do? I'm in SoCal and the weather is just perfect to drop the top.

I would love to have that knowledge for ya but you do realize that this in a MINI forum don't you http://www.freesmileys.org/emo/happy075.gif
Ask me about a MINI cabrio & I will be all over it but I know nada about Beetles except for the fact that they can do great damage to our Southern pines    |
I just looked it up. Apparently it's a warning light that tells you to stop wasting money on VW convertible rentals and to get a Mini.

I see it's comedy open mic night at NAM!! yuk, yuk everyone. I actually looked into renting a MCS as Beverly Hills Rent A Car does offer them-for about $125 plus mileage per day! The Beetle was CHEAP from Alamo( about $225 incl taxes for 5 days) and I can get it past the company bean counter since I'm not paying for it-it's a business trip. I thought that perhaps there was a Mini owner that owned one of these in the past. I've got to figure this out as the weather is just perfect for a convertable in Orange Co right now and will be for the rest of the week.

Maybe Alamo could help. Somebody might know, or there might be a manual in another car. Or stop by a VW dealer, kick some tires and ask for a demo of the roof while you rummage around the glovebox.

You know it Max! I did e-mail VW last night-hopefully they will let me know as I am totally missing baffled. I am usually really good at figuring stuff like this out.

Well I never got it to stop beeping- i guess it's some warning beep connected to the top that (I hope) can be shut off. I got a return from VW and followed their instructions exactly but everytime I started off it would beep for about 10 seconds. I do have to admit the little bettle did very well on the So Cal freeways- it could keep up with the 90 mph diamond lane and still had some power for passing/merging and it did not use much gas. Since gas is hovering in the $3.45 range for reg in CA that was a nice feature. The top did have the usual convertable blind spot but it wasn't a problem for me and as it's a small car parking it was a breeze- even in the ultra tight spots I found to be very common. I feel for my So Cal friends- what door dings you must get! Rentals are often mindnumbingly boring but this was a nice change and the red/black combo on the Bettle Conv't actually made it look kind of sporty. VW should really get the meep/meep horn back in that car-it needs it.
