NOOO... IT'S CHRIS BANGLE AGAIN.....

Just found this article about what is prromise to be the future of BMW's look. Not only he ruined BMW's, as we use to know them and love them, with his "flame surfacing" nonsense.. He is about to do it again.. WHY, WHY, WHY??? I'll gve you credit for having some more flowing lines.but htis needs to stop!!! please...

note: I am expressing my opinion.. what's yours?

I dunno, I kinda like it. It looks stealth. I don't care for the sharp lines going down the sides but I like the front & the rear

Yuck! I miss the understated class of previous generations. This to me seems garish and self absorbing. I think of Porsche and thier ability to change thier designs enough to keep them fresh looking without losing the original inherent characteristics of the older models. Oh well, change is inevitable. I do wish they would come out with a 2002 tii that evoked the original spirit, much like BMW did with the MINI (i'll take a lime green one please)

Loony2N Apr 20, 2007 12:50 PM

Stealth is right. It looks like an outdated Dodge Stealth....

Were those side mirrors inspired by Mr. Spock? I don't admire the Bangle look but I was especially annoyed to see his styling cues being picked up by the entire auto industry.

LMAO, they do look like Spock's ears!

I love the front end, particularly the kidney grille

The car is a concept, not production. Those always tend to be a bit over-the-top.

At least all the elements work together better than some Bangle designs.

Dr Obnxs Apr 20, 2007 01:09 PM

I'm not a big fan..

of styling cues just for the sake of it. It's better than the past stuff, but still not for me. Just my luck the styling is spreading throught the industry like a case of the clap in a whore house!

I too miss the understated elegance of the pre-Bangle era. He's ruined the marque as far as I'm concerned.

The only way to stop him would have been market rejection but, tragically, it never happened. Aesthetics can be so subjective!

kenchan Apr 20, 2007 02:52 PM

kinda has that dodge stance in the front. would be kinda cool if it
was a crossover suv or something.

Chris Mangel (from the link) loves to overdesign for the sake of it.
Not for me.

roaduscarnivorous Apr 20, 2007 03:36 PM

c'mon guys, this is wayyyyy better looking than any bmw's sold right now. they're all fugly, and if something like this starts sweeping over the designs, it's for the better!

and before you start bashing chris bangle...sure he's butchered the entire bmw range, but he was also responsible for the e46 and the first gen x5. so he can rescue them as well

SpunkytheTuna Apr 20, 2007 03:38 PM

Looks like it was designed by an elf.

And elf with a serious psilocybin jones.

Each to their own, and I'm not dissing Bangle, just nearly every one (R50,R52 R53 and half of the Z4 coupe have decent styling) of the cars that BMW has put on the road since he's taken command, I'm sure he's at least a semi-decent person.

The fact that it's a step up from his past work speaks sadly as to how ugly his portfolio really is.

BTW: Did he have anything to do with the R50/53? I didn't think he did.

My understanding of it he "approved the desgin" take that how you will.

Remember when BMWs were understated exteriors, and simple quality interiors, now the interiors have crazy computers and constantly failing electronics and frankly gaudy exterior styling.

Bangles's designs always shock me at first , then I see them on the road and I think, that looks pretty good ,a year later, that looks really good,a few years later , that looks classic.I trust him. the mirrors do look alittle elvish.

DustinDallas Apr 21, 2007 07:40 PM

Bash all you want. Last I checked..BMW sales aren't suffering.

Maybe my age has something to do with it, but I guess I'm the minority. Before Bangle, I thought BMW had one of the blandest, most uninspiring lineups in the industry (much like the old Volvos). You can call them classic designs...to me, they were just dated.

I love EVERY current BMW, however. They're a bit progressive looking, so I understand why the purests would dissapprove, but they are MUCH sportier looking now.

I think Bangle saved BMW..just my opinion.

Depends how you look at it. I dont remember any understated exteriors and simple interiors. I only remember bland, blocky exteriors with rectangular headlights/taillights, squared off greenhouses, etc....and plain, very unstylish interiors that would look at home in any Honda. Hideous.

I also love iDrive. But I'm very techno-savy, so I would..

MDK Apr 21, 2007 08:34 PM

I kinda see Dodge Charger elements in the CS as well-in the shark eyes headlight treatment and especially the rear quarter character line(which came from the Dodge Polara originally). Bangle is a polarising guy but his designs so far have been original (except maybe this one).

MGCMAN Apr 25, 2007 05:24 PM

hhhhmmmm, Daddy like CS Concept.

dickdavid Apr 25, 2007 05:28 PM

I love it.
