Back when Cup cars actually had some link to street cars it might have sounded funny, but now it's just a spec series (albeit technology circa 1965) with a common body shape using an engine loosely based on one of the parent companies engine blocks. Witness the switch from Taurus to Fusion...peel off one "grille" sticker, stick on another...POOF! It's a Fusion!

Turns out my next door neighbor has a brother whos in the hierarchy at NASCAR. You can't imagine the sum of money Toyota paid for the privelege. My understanding is that to get into Nextel they had to run Busch, continue in Trucks and do another series as well. Huge investment on the part of Toyota. It will be interesting to see if they can do better there than they've done in F1.
This is old news, Toytoa running Nascar and Honda taking over in Indy cars pretty soon there should be nomore need for an American engine. I'm betting Mitsu for all the IHRA dragsters, in the next 15 yars. (Hint hint to "Big Three": its time to get your act together and produce good reliable fast cars before you go bankrupt!!!!)

I haven't paid attention to NA$CAR in ages so this is news to me. I do like that they are running Toyota stickers this year. Some Toyota's are built here so why not.
Their V8 plant is not far from here.

And just why do you think that Nascar has grown to the epic proportions it is today? Largely BECAUSE it is the last American sport that either blacks or foreigners don’t dominate. Diversifying Nascar will be the death of Nascar. Wouldn’t fans already be going to events if they truly wanted to see them? Therefore, in essence, they would be recruiting people to be involved who are currently not interested in being involved. Believe me, if blacks were interested in Nascar for the sport alone, rather than just mowing down another all white enterprise, they would already have taken over it. The law states that blacks are entitled to attend and be involved. That’s all that is required. If they choose not to, or crews choose not to hire them, that’s their business.
