Big Ariel Atom fan here... Just saw where a Bay Area company got one of these bad boys, and went electric with it. Pretty impressive:

Given the apparent hassles of registering an Atom, at least in CA, I'm thinking that the VW GX3 at a 1/3 the price (supposedly) might be a decent back-up, if it indeed comes to life:

If electric, why does it sound like it has an internal combustion engine?

I think they dubbed in some sounds for the Ferrari and Porsche and that made it sound like a gas burner. Is it just me or is that an Ariel Atom body?

The GX3 looks quite interesting for less than 20k, 46mpg, and one would get to use the commuter lane. Throw a SC on that 1.6, and it would have a very impressive weight to hp ratio...
